A friend and I went to Connie's! Following the dedication of the 18th Street Bridge. In the memorial of Buster Sanchez. The place was not like it used to be. The inside has been updated with those ideas of the third generation. Which is common as a restaurant is passed on to the next generation. The booths are now more private. Which is a nice idea. For those who wish for that intimate privacy. Or to have a serious meeting with associates. They also have that patio atmosphere that is outside for those wanting something different. The dress is more relaxed as well. The host and cashier wore shorts. Which I have never seen at Connie's in all the years that I ate there. So, it was kind of a shock for me. I know that would not be allowed with the original generation. The chips were great. The sauces were fantastic. The hot 🔥 sauce is just that. So please remember it. My friend ordered a corn bean tostada and a deep-fried flour taco. I ordered a flour monterrey with pork. He really liked the tasted. I liked the size of my monterey as it did fill the whole plate. So it was like a 9-inch deep-fried flour tortilla. The arrangement of the items was different from the traditional style. The pork meat was on top of everything. Instead of being under the lettuce. Plus, the cheese was on top of the pork meat. It is a lot different than what I am used to. The quality was great with that first bite. And worth the price for it. But it was missing sour cream and a jalapen...
Read moreConnie's is my favorite family style Mexican restaurant in Wichita. Meals are served on simple, but real, plates, silverware, and glasses--no Styrofoam. The menu has some combos based upon crisp tacos, enchiladas, and tostadas, but the majority of it are dishes built upon meats: steak, chicken, ground beef, roast pork. So many things sound good, but I discovered my favorites some time ago and I struggle to order anything else off the menu. That's because they took my two favorite things, guacamole and pork chili verde, and put them together as a burrito. The Avocado con Chili Verde Burrito is loaded with chunks of pork and a generous amount of guacamole. With all burritos you get a choice of additional toppings or just get them all by saying "Deluxe it." If you only choose one of the toppings, make it the beef chili. It's not particularly "spicy," but it sure is flavorful, a wonderful comfort food. I would love to see it as an a la carte item. Drinks include assorted sodas, a selection of both Mexican and domestic beers, and a very good...
Read moreRead moreI love the people and usually the food is great. Been going there since I was a child 50 years ago. They haven't really cleaned in a very, very long time though. The floors, baseboards and the wall around the hall light switch is very seldom even given a quick wipe down, around the bus tubs is filthy and I'm always very disappointed by that so refuse to sit where I'll have to see it. There have to be roaches and whatnot. The bussers just throw and drop the heavy dishes upon each other making so much racket, it almost hurts the ears if you sit back there. They should be more considerate for the customers. Like I said I still go, even though I say I'll never go back because of the filth. The food is so good and it's a habit. I can't believe they keep passing the inspections and some reviews say it's very clean. WHAT?! I think they are excused because of the history they have in Wichita. i love them none-the-less. Please don't hate me for this review...
