I'm back after a little 2 month hiatus! For my return, I decided to go out and eat my favorite food of all time.. TACOS! This called for a stop at Deano's Grill & Tapworks located at 21st and Webb. Let me start off by saying, this was my first visit ever to Deano's and I want to kick myself in the ass for not visiting this establishment sooner. To say everything was beyond phenomenal, is an understatement. When eating out, I like to order soup when I can, and this corn chowder blew me away. I can't remember when I've tasted a soup this darn good. It's hard to explain the combination of flavors, but you could tell the butter in it stood out. I had to stop myself from eating it all, because I wanted to take a little home to try later. My Los Cabos Chicken Tacos were almost as good as the soup was. Had all the fixings. Onion, corn, black beans, and lettuce atop some decently tasting chicken. The sauce that came with the tacos was very unique and I wish I had the recipe for. There was the right amount of heat and possessed a flavor I've never tasted before. I couldn't get enough of that stuff either. Also with my tacos came shoestring onions, which is an uncommon side as far as most the restaurants I've visited. They would be wonderful on a burger. I think I saw on the menu that there is one that comes with those shoestring onions. All in all, I'd have to say Deano's is one of the best restaurants I've visited so far in Wichita. And when my tab was only $15 for everything, it just made my visit here that much sweeter.
A while back Deano's made my top 5 list. And I'll be honest, that was after only one stop there. After today, I think I'd bump it down to like 7th or 8th place. Not saying that's bad, pretty good considering I've reviewed around 50 restaurants. My early lunch consisted of the Santa Fe Chicken and I subbed the rice pilaf with a side of mac and cheese at the suggestion of the waitress. It wasn't a bad idea. That mac was full of cheesy goodness with some fresh cheese and a little garlic flavoring sprinkled in. The Santa Fe Chicken however was a little dry. Though it was charbroiled almost perfectly. So kind of a conundrum. Probably because it was butterflied. I really did enjoy the black bean salsa atop, which had some 🔥 from the jalapeno, but was a little on the cold side as the waitress mentioned. I also liked my vegetables because of the slight butter flavor to them, but tasted heated up and not steamed. So when I said I'd put Deano's at a 7 or 8 in my top 5 list, it could actually be a little lower, but those tacos I had last time...
Read moreTried Deano's after waiting over an hour and a half for Jax's, came back and was seated fairly quickly after calling to check in from our car. The dessert menu and my sweet tooth drew me in. We ordered some boneless wings for an app, ordered drinks and I ordered a boom boom shrimp salad, added grilled chicken and my husband ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich meal. We waited, but couldn't really talk as it was loud. Totally understand this is a bar, and on a Friday night... we didn't mind. Our food was dropped to our table, by another lady... as our server was a man... but my husband's was totally wrong, as they were dropping off a BBQ chicken platter and what looked like a side salad to the entrée with big round orange balls on it. We told them it wasn't our food and held our breath... in the current mood for covid-19, as we didn't want to breathe on someone else's food. Our waiter returned asking what was wrong with our plates. He brought back my salad and told me that was the boom boom shrimp salad and my chicken was underneath. I said, oh... okay. I didn't know that my salad looked like that. I said I'll take it. He asked my husband what was wrong with his dish and my husband told him he wanted the BBQ chicken sandwich. He leaves and returns with a sandwich... neither of us was expecting it to be so automatic. We thanked him as we were surprised we'd be eating together after the mix up. I was super under-whelmed. My salad looked like a side salad. A bunch of greens smashed down with a cut up chicken breast and orange balls of deep fried shrimp in an orange sauce crowded on top of this small plate. No room for croutons and definitely no warm pretzel on the small plate that literally looked like a side salad for an entrée. Taste was okay... I wasn't blown away. Literally soggy deep fried shrimp rolled in some orange Asian sauce. I had no idea it was fried, as the description under salads doesn't specify it. Hence, I didn't think it was my salad. After our food was dropped, our server literally went MIA on us, and when he finally returned it was if we were the Karen's of his evening and had stole his soul... he was there to drop off the check. We obviously didn't order dessert or anything else. I don't think I'll ever come back, the food was so not worth it... or what we were able to order and try. Maybe turn the music down a little for the servers to...
