Go for the friendliness, not the looks. I was looking for a Chinese takeout place close to my house and stumbled across Fried Rice on Google Maps. It had good reviews, so my boyfriend and I decided to go check it out. It's set back from the street and doesn't look great from the outside, but as soon as we walked in the owners greeted us and began joking around with us like we were old friends. We both got the advertised daily special (it's the special every day) -- chicken fried rice, 2 eggrolls, and a can of soda. For $4. Total -- tax included. The owner found out it was our first time and brought us 4 fresh crab rangoons ("Don't touch!!" he said. "They're still boiling inside!!") and then tipped US a dollar for coming! So for $7 (tax included), we got two take-out cartons of fried rice with chicken, 4 eggrolls, 2 cans of soda, and 4 crab rangoons. Wow. So although the atmosphere might be off-putting to those more used to a polished dining experience, it's hard to beat food that was fresh, tasted good, and was...
Read moreWas passing through Wichita and decided to try this place since the reviews were so high, it looked like a cute hole in the wall. But no, it was some of the worst fried rice and egg rolls I’ve ever had. I was impressed by how cheap it was until I looked in the box. The fried rice was literally just mildly charred white rice with just THREE shrimps in the whole thing. The rice was bunched up together with an uneven texture and color, and none of it tasted fresh. And there were no other toppings you expect to see in fried rice (no carrots, peas, spring onions, anything). The to-go box was a small portion too which I couldn’t tell from pictures. The egg rolls were horribly greasy at the bottom and it all smelled of cigarettes. The outer part of the egg rolls was too thick and the vegetables inside did not taste fresh at all. Other reviews already talk about the dismal hygiene standards and overall lack of cleanliness so I won’t get into that. I hope I don’t get food poisoning like others did but there’s a...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend decided to pay a visit to Fried Rice on E. Pawnee. Its my first time coming here in over a decade. I ended up going with combo fried rice which came with bits of red pork, tiny shrimp, and chicken chunks. Back in the early 2000's if I remember correctly, everything was made to order. But today, they already had the fried rice put together. Everything was still warm though. Obviously it wasn't cooked too long before I got there. I'll have to say, the fried rice was just decent. Nothing too special about it. But the egg rolls were delicious. They were stuffed with meat, noodles and cabbage with a bunch of black pepper. I throughly enjoyed them. There was also a choice of canned pop that came with the meal. I went with grape. All in all, for seven dollars, you can't beat that price for...
