It's easy to overlook this place as you drive by, but please stop in. Great eats, great prices.
Today I ordered the Cajun Salad. No, my salad didn't greet me with a smoky creole accent or offer me any beads. It was not fashioned by a chef, nor was it prepared with eclectic ingredients. I was not magically transported to an era and place steeped in rich multifaceted history via my taste buds. But I did find a great deal and was pleased with my experience.
That lettuce mix with the carrot and red cabbage shreds was the freshest, crispiest bed of greens I could've hoped for. If it hasn't been such a reasonable wait for my order, I would've swore an employee had to make a trip to the store to buy this salad mix and tomatoes especially for my order. The shredded cheddar cheese was given most generously, nearly hiding the greens underneath. Fresh, juicy cherry tomatoes were halved and sprinkled on the cheese in a salad:tomato ratio that made them more of an ingredient than a garnish. The crowning jewel, the crispy, yet tender, fried chicken was sliced into pieces that actually fit in my mouth and doused lovingly with their Cajun dry rub. The seasoning not only flavored the chicken in a just right heat, but it also mingled with the finely shredded cheese, giving it a delightful punch. Overall, the simplicity of the ingredients really let the dry rub shine and pull it all together.
I was offered Ranch or Dorothy Lynch for dressing. Due to a miscommunication, I did not receive dressing. This was the only negative I could think of, and I actually found myself enjoying the salad without it. The combined freshness of the salad mix and the juiciness of the tomatoes kept it fun being literally dry, making it enjoyable as is- and I don't typically eat dry salads, ever. I assumed the dressing was in the to-go box, as my food was prepared and boxed in the back and I didn't think to look before I left the restaurant. Not a big deal, as we happen to have both dressings at home like any good moraled normal American.
Upon opening the box, I realized why my dressing was not inside....... There flat out was no room. The salad itself was huge, completely filling every square inch, leaving only the slimmest edge of white along the perimeter of the container. Not only was this dish big from side to side, it was also as deep as my hand is wide. And no, it wasn't loosely tossed in or fluffed. It was compact like a suitcase packed by your tightwad aunt who brings everything on a trip "just in case" but still wants to meet the size requirements for a carry-on bag.
Overall, simple, but very very fresh with a nice seasoning. Expect a little wait, maybe 10-15 min tops, as they seem to make things fresh to order. Call ahead of you're pressed for time. Oh, and my giant salad, full of chicken, was only $7. I couldn't even finish half of it in...
Read moreI went to this place and left. First of all I tried calling in my order, and a little girl answered the phone, had to be no more than 8 or 9yrs old I'd never been here before and had a few questions about the menu. The little girl had to ask the adult, who was in the back cooking the answer to every question, and it still wasn't clear. Since the adult didn't think to take the phone and help me, I simply told the little girl I'd just drive there. When I got there, there were two adult men waiting on their food, and the same little girl at the register. No one greeted me. I personally don't think that's the safest situation.I asked for a to go menu...didn't have one. So I stood there too look at the ONE menu that they had. I just wanted a combo with fish/chicken like most "soul food" places have. When I noticed the "combination platter it said $13 & didn't State what came with it, so I asked the little girl. She went to the kitchen to ask the adult, who said to her, "what do you mean what is it, didn't you just tell someone else what it was?" So then the girl comes back and said fish, chicken, and shrimp. So I pointed out to her that the big combo written on the wall comes with fish, chicken, and shrimp, and asked her was she sure it was the same thing because they are called separate names, and have separate prices. She then turned to go ask again, and I asked her to ask the adult to come to the counter to help me. When she went to ask, I overheard the woman say "well she is going to have to wait a minute, because I'm cooking orders." At this point I said nevermind and left. I'm all for supporting local businesses, and good soul food, but too bad this one doesn't stand a chance. I will not come back. When you have rude customer service and child employees who don't understand the menu, that's...
Read moreWow. To be honest the wings I had here were the best tasting wings I ever had in my entire life. There is a big guy working the counter witch was already a good sign I don't trust skinny chefs you feel me. The prices can't be beat you will pay less then half compared to w1ngstop or bufallo wild w1ngs. I got parmesan garlic chicken fried extra hard with onion rings and ranch cups with a can of soda for 6 dollars. All I can say is wow I'm so impressed the only thing im scared of is this business shutting down one day it would be a great shame to the chicken game in Wichita. I'm stunned how juicy yet crispy and crunchy the wings were and how firm yet crunchy and tender the onion rings were and the ranch tasted homeade none of that great valley stuff. My name is Christopher and I'm definitely coming back that's for sure. I hope you...
