Confections by Casey Renee — Restaurant in Wilkinsburg

My wife and I needed vegan/gluten free (V/GF) cupcakes and a large cake for approximately a hundred guests. We chose Confections by Casey Renee.

Best decision ever. Five stars.

We started out by trying the sampler for V/GF cupcakes and really enjoyed everything we had. Based on that sampler, we decided to go with Confections for our cake. We did chocolate cake and chocolate ganache for the V/GF cupcakes, and a vanilla cake, berry filling, mascarpone icing cake. Everything was delicious.

The cake was marvelous for the eyes and tummy. I personally had the cake. The cake itself was a moist, pleasant vanilla. The filling was a tart, aromatic berry jam. The icing was a sophisticated, creamy, not too sweet dream. Really well balanced and delicious. I didn’t personally have the V/GF cupcakes because I don’t have to live my life like that, but the guests that had them said they were fantastic.

We've been getting cakes from Casey for years now for birthdays and other occasions, so when it came to our wedding it was an absolute no brainer.

Every step of the way Casey made it an easy task and was a joy to work with. Our tasting took us through plenty of options and really allowed us to customize what we wanted and what we thought guests would enjoy. Her decoration work was great and day of on site she even worked with our cake toppers to make them extra cute. The flavor of the cake was phenomenal and we couldn't have been happier.

I really have one truly damning issue with the whole experience. We had ordered a 6" custom Tiramisu cake just for ourselves to take home as we originally were thinking this for the wedding, but have enough people at the wedding who didn't like coffee. However, we were idiots and didn't tell the wedding caterer not to serve that cake, so alas our tiny cake went out to the entire wedding party and we only got one slice! Alas we'll just have to order it again for our first...

My husband has several significant dietary restrictions, so for our wedding, my goal was simply to find him a small allergen-friendly cake so he could enjoy something special. We planned to have a separate “regular” cake for the rest of our guests.

But the cake we received from Casey Renee far exceeded all expectations- it was absolutely stunning. In fact, it was so beautiful that we ended up using it as our primary cake for photos and the cake-cutting. I still can’t believe how gorgeous it turned out!

The best part? It also tasted incredible. My husband said it was easily the best cake he’s ever had, and many of our guests actually preferred his allergen-friendly cake over the “regular” one (unfortunately for him! haha).

We are so grateful for the care and artistry that went into this cake. It made our wedding day that much more special, and we truly cannot wait for another excuse to order from Casey Renee again. Highly,...
