After standing at the Home Depot paint window for half an hour without assistance, I decided to check out an independent store for that 'personal touch'. At Pennwood Paint & Supply, I found it.
Coming in as a total novice, the owner patiently walked me through several techniques(going so far as to pull some brushes off the wall and show me different strokes), went over the differences in the paints, and actually talked me OUT of some extra stuff I didn't need. After having just been in the big box store, I can also confidently say Pennwood is extremely competitive on supplies and brushes.
