Stopped by with my wife last Sunday on the way back to Richmond. The place had decent reviews so we decided to give it a shot.
We were told the wait would be 20 minutes, which ended up being closer to 35. That's fine we dealt with the wait as it was a beautiful morning.
Once we were seated it took the waitress roughly 15 minutes to take our order. Keep in mind at this point we have invested 50 minutes into this diner with no return.
Fast forward to 45 minutes after our order was taken - no food, nothing to show for. By this point we had been this "diner" for roughly an 1 hr 35 min. We kindly asked the waitress what was going on and after a few routine excesses, "we're busy, the kitchen is short staffed, your food will be out in a minute, etc....) we decided to wait 5 more minutes.
5 minutes later, nothing.... We decided to leave as we both are very busy individuals and had a full day ahead. Once we stood up the waitress became very rude. We explained our case, which only seemed to irritate her more. The waitress grabbed some half cooked looking pancake from the kitchen and shoved it in front of my wife like it was suppose to pacify us until our food came.
We put $2 on the table for the coffee and left.
The very definition of a diner is quick or fast, which is why we chose this place to begin with. If we wanted a leisure breakfast we would have gone to Kingsmill or somewhere similar.
1 star or less for service.
Couldn't tell you how the food tasted.; but the...
Read moreFirst, I love a greasy spoon diner. Second, when I go to them, I never expect 5 star service. This place is horrible, however…..The cafe closes at 2pm. We walked in at 1:05. I think that was our mistake. They were too concerned with going home. The hostess pointed over her shoulder to where we should sit. The server was borderline rude, forceful at best. Typical breakfast order. Pancakes for my sons. Biscuits and gravy combo for me. I asked if it came with toast and was told, “that’s why it has biscuits.” When the food came, the bacon orders were old and greasy. I quickly tasted the gravy. I told the server that the gravy is cold, and not even warm. Without a grunt, mumble, or a word, she carried the plate away. Next you hear the microwave being used. It finishes, and here comes the biscuits and gravy again. She put the plate back on the table, and walked away, again without a grunt, grumble, or a word spoken. This is the last time we saw her during the visit. As we’re eating the meal, we hear two men behind the brown wall trying to get things cleaned up for closing. “No more orders” “I’m tired of this sh*t” “It’s always like this every dam Sunday”. Just part of their conversation.
This place is so bad, that for the first time in my life, I left a $0.00 tip. Yeah. ...
Read moreI've been a loyal customer of Five Forks for over six years. I took my three children there this morning and had my first bad experience, which was completely due to the new server (or she's one we haven't seen in the past). The food was great, as always.
She didn't do a terrible job during the meal, except for getting one drink wrong and not bringing one order of toast. I didn't mention her not bringing the toast during the meal, because my daughter didn't eat most of hers, so I just ate her left overs. The real issue was when I checked out. The bill seemed a bit high at $77.65, so I scanned through it with the waitress (not sure of her name, but she has a tattoo on her forearm that says "beautiful"). I noticed the two orders of toast and let her know she didn't bring my order. She swore to me she brought it. I told her she didn't and I just ate my daughters, but she insisted I was wrong. I don't care about the extra $3.50 for the toast that didn't come...it's the principle. She was either being dishonest or her memory isn't good enough to be a server. No matter which, she implied I was lying about $3.50. I won't allow her to be our server in the future.
She mentioned being a server at Honey Butter during our meal. I suspect her quality of service is the reason for...
