Hansie Flip Burgers — Restaurant in Williamstown

The place was really cool looking on the inside and had a great outdoor space. Service wise - we didn't get a number like everyone else did. I figured it was because we were a to-go order but I'm not quite sure after talking to another employee. I'm also pretty sure they forgot about our order. We were waiting for 22 minutes and people that ordered after us got their orders before us. We chalked it up to us ordering 6 burgers. So, especially since they were nice when giving us the food, I figured we would try the food before reviewing. As far as the food goes - I'm honestly surprised they have a 4.7 rating. Burgers and fries are all they do... so, you would think they would be excellent. I'm sure it's rated so well because there's barely any other food options around the area. Cute town. Just not a lot of options. The fries weren't at all crispy and not good without a good amount of ketchup. The burgers were mediocre and a little dry. They also forgot to put their special sauce on my burger. One of my kids' burgers wasn't cooked all the way through. I also wanted to order shakes but their shake...

Tried once, but was not disappointed. First the good. They claim a 6oz patty on a single burger, and I have no trouble believing it, my double seemed very close to 12oz total cooked weight, very lightly pink. One review complains about too much cheese, which must be possible, but seems like it isn't typically a complaint. The fries I got where brown, lightly crisp on the outside, soft and done inside, lightly salted. Many call that perfect, but as always, it's a judgement call. With such a simple menu there are bound to be people unhappy. Maybe the burgers don't fit their "smashburger ideal", or they prefer shoestring fries instead of half inch thick fries. I was surprised that the website (worth a visit BTW) specifically mentioned DILL pickles when I distinctly got a "bread and butter sweet pickle" impression. Each table had ketchup, but I didn't think to ask as I ordered if there was any mustard available. The "Hansie sauce" didn't hit me as essential, but it ruined nothing for me. Saw great reviews prior to our first experience. Friendly counter staff for sure and thought it was very positive that they source their beef locally. Wait time for our 2 burgers, 1 order fries and 2 beers was average. Pretty slow night but in fairness it was a Tuesday. Buns were toasted but cool to the touch on the outside which was strange. Burgers were very well done so although the quality of the meat seemed very good, the only moisture left in the burger meat was mayo and mustard. It would have been good during the ordering process to have asked us how we might like our burgers cooked. Both burgers were cooked well done and yet were not served hot. The fries appeared to be hand cut which was a positive but they were not hot and a bit soggy. The beers were served cold which is always nice. We aren’t much for complaining so had our server returned in time to ask how our food was, we probably would have replied “fine”.
