The Gingerbread Construction Co — Restaurant in Winchester

Cookies are great but service received was not great so I wouldn't recommend working with them for an event. If you want a great cookie and easy pick up, this is a great spot for that.

1. Order confirmation issue - I ordered 8 dozen cookies for a birthday party and upon calling the day before to double check my order, staff couldn't find my order which lead to a stressful hour waiting to see if a new one could be placed. It was a false alarm as my order slip was placed in a different location and was later found. (It would be appreciated if I could place a new order, even if the cookie amount needed to be decreased vs me having no cookies day before my party.)
2. Missing cookies at pick up - Upon pick up, 18 cookies were not packed and bagged for me to grab. It was only discovered I was missing a box of cookies when I was almost home to get ready for my party and received a voicemail from the store. (It would be appreciated if a refund was offered to me vs asking me to return to the store.)
3. Unclear refund process - When I asked for a refund for my missing cookies since I couldn't make a second trip to retrieve the missing cookies, it wasn't guaranteed and staff had to do additional checks before calling me back with an answer. The refund amount doesn't make sense to me either as the refund is based on $18/lb instead of what I actually paid for my order at pick up while ordering I was told I couldn't pre-pay because the cookies needed to be weighed before confirming a price .It doesn't seem the pricing is consistent and varies depending on the situation (payment vs refund). (It would be appreciated if the approach for the cookie amount was consistent with my original phone order.)

With the multiple phone calls, the staff was nice to talk to. The rating is due to my dissatisfaction with the way my issues...

I simply will not be returning to this establishment due to an unexpected allergic reaction from their blueberry muffin recipe. Upon eating said muffins on two separate days, my body developed symptoms of moderate itchiness, from head to toe. These symptoms appear to continue on until the day after. Meanwhile, I’ve had to seek refuge in a hot shower to relieve myself of this itchiness.

I am unsure as to what ingredient could have caused this allergic reaction to occur, but I nevertheless feel I must discontinue my business with Gingerbread Construction to prevent this experience from reoccurring. This is a concern I do not have when visiting other bakeries.

If you don’t mind driving for a few more miles southward, as an honorable mention, I recommend patronizing Quebrada in Arlington, particularly for their in-house croissants that they prepare from scratch every early morning (and no, I am not kidding). I’ve never experienced an allergic reaction...

Can be busy at times. The people working behind the counter are usually young and appear to be still in school. The experience varies based on their attitude but most look frazzled due to the hectic pace. Most manage a smile and are good workers. The food is excellent every time. I have been a fan of their muffins since I grew up in Winchester and have been going to this location since at least 2000. I’ve worked on Cape Cod and now western MA and have picked up food for the office for Monday morning after visiting my parents who still reside in town. There are many fans down the Cape and in the Amherst area who have never been to the shop but sing its praises due to the quality of the offerings.
