We don't expect buffets to be the best food we've ever had but we expect a little effort to be put in. That cannot be said for the Common Man Windham New Hampshire Sunday buffet. I'm not even sure where to begin with either the atrociously no tasting food or horrendous service. The buffet consisted of the basics, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown and a few lunch type dishes. A Sriracha chicken and a Haddock piccata. The Haddock piccata was basically Haddock in what tasted like a bland flour roux with absolutely no indication of any lemon juice, butter, and although there were Capers they had no flavor at all. The Sriracha chicken which should have had a little heat and flavor to it tasted like chicken in red food color, exactly no taste. There was no omelet station and these days most Sunday buffets have an omelet station. The Common Man did include, and I'm not exaggerating, a very young boy with a chef's cap standing in front of a piece of steak about the size of half a deck of cards. Basically two forkfuls worth of steak on his carving board. Next to him were two giant vats, one with caramelized onions and the other with horseradish sauce. No other meats available no turkey, roast beef or ham as is usually seen at a breakfast buffet There were Belgian waffles which is one of my favorite things, however they as well had zero taste with the consistency of a kitchen sponge. Our service was truly worse than the buffet. After being seated we waited a few minutes until a waitress walked by and glanced at us and said oh hi I'm Lisa I'll be taking care of you. And taking care of us was not in her agenda. We got two coffees and two waters, she dropped off the coffee with no cream and no spoons. I had to search for cream until another waitress said she would bring it over. I then had to get up and look for spoons until a third waitress saw me and said she would bring some. Not too much later we saw a customer get up from her table and head to the waitress station and pour herself two glasses of ice water, my guess is she had the same waitress as us.There were also three floor managers, they seemed to be anyway, walking around, two guys that were basically just walking checking on things and one woman who seem to be doing quite a bit of extra side work. I don't even want to get into the desserts, most of them were dry and stale. All in all it was a very sad visit and I've been a fan of the Common Man since its inception in Ashland New Hampshire. I will tell you for $20 per person I could have just gone to a regular nice sit-down breakfast and paid half the price with much better food. I would recommend not wasting your money or the close to half an hour wait time and go...
Read moreMy wife and I went to the Windham location Thursday October 30 th. We were regulars, dining there at least 3 times a month for the past 5 years. We have also introduced our friends and business associates to the restaurant too. So when we were treated unprofessionally I was very surprised and disappointed. I ordered a pizza and a Martini and my wife ordered a veggie burger and a glass of wine, after about 20 minutes my pizza turned into a sub and my wife's veggie burger became a black bean burger, apparently the restaurant changes up their menu which is good but the wait staff should bring that to the attention of the client don't you think? After declining to wait another 20 minutes for what I ordered in the first place a pizza I picked on my wife's French fries. The manager then came over and offered to Comp. the sub that I didn't order, how can you comp something the client didn't order, don't you just remove it from the bill? However he did offer to comp my drink and I thought that was professional and accepted. Now feeling uncomfortable with the attention we were getting from other patrons my wife didn't complain about the burger ate a couple bites and we picked on the fries which tasted good especially knowing that was we were going to eat that evening. When the bill came there was no comping of any drink or drinks as promised by the manager. We were all done, we didn't want any more attention so we paid the full bill and also left a $20 tip not wanting to punish the hard working waitress, even though it was her miss order that began the problem. As we were leaving the restaurant I told my wife do you realize that we just spent $58.00 for an order of French Fries. Its really too bad we have enjoyed The Common Man, Windham as our default place to dine and now it will be a very long time if ever before we go there again. Its been over a week since our poor experience but felt it necessary to bring this to the attention of upper management in hopes this doesn't happen to other diners. I have been in the service industry for 28 years and I know how difficult it is to be 100%. So if you go there be sure to speak up if there is a problems and do not do what we did and leave angry. I am no longer referring or taking my many high end clients in the area to The Common Man Windham and its really too bad for...
Read moreI haven't left a review in years but this restaurant deserves an award. I have been to restaurants all around the world from casual dining to Michelin Star and this seriously may be the best restaurant in North East America. It took me through a rainbow of culture starting with the garlic bread bringing me back to my roots in Naples where my family grew up. Next, was the empanada, while it isn't your traditional Spanish style it was better than any I've ever had, even from Spain, Miami, Chile or Argentina. It reminded me of biking through the cobble stone streets as the sun set. The sauce that accompanied it was euphoric. I even asked the waiter if they sold it at the establishment. He said no, but whispered me the recipe after chatting with the chef. While I have to believe he was preserving the secret ingredient, I don't blame him at all. In fact, I respect it. Next up was the onion soup, better known as "french onion soup". It felt like I was dining at the Louvre at this point. This is where I started to flip out. It tasted like what a warm cabin with a fire and tons of laughter and friends would taste like. I could never replicate that item. Finally was the steak tip salad. It's very rare a chef actually cooks the steak to your liking, and boy did he do just that. Actually, I didn't like the steak. I LOVED it! You couldn't see the dressing, but you could feel it and you could taste it with each bite. That's EXACTLY how a salad should be dressed. It was wonderfully garnished with Gorgonzola cheese and fine spring mix with a big plump mushroom in the middle. The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned so carefully, every bite was truly a journey. I'll never forget this night with my family, and they offered to take me back for my birthday in April, which I accepted. Thank you for the wonderful service and...
