La Carreta Mexican Restaurant and Bar — Restaurant in Winfield Township

2 Stars. While I do give high marks for service and atmosphere I go to restaurants for the food.

To give the place a fair shake compared to my favorite Mexican restaurant that's a mile past the new La Carreta Winfield I ordered a basic combo with ground beef and the following variations all that start out with low marks because the meat was so mediocre to start. The seasoning is just bad.

1. Sope-The corn masa base tasted as if it was microwaved from frozen. Lacked avocado and sour cream. No flair or flavor.
2. Hard Shell Taco-not good because of the meat being lousy.
3. Tostada-was covered by the side of beans and that made it chewy. Not to mention it again was ground beef and that being bad the rest of the dish was already at a loss. Like the Dope no flair or flavor.

The sides that came with were Rice and Beans. The rice was really good and the beans lacked any flavor making them forgettable.

While I really want to like this place because I can walk to it, drink 3 margaritas and not have to worry about driving, the food will keep me from going back at this point. The place does offer a fantastic variety of more complex dishes on the menu but I am hesitant to try them as they can't get the seasoning on ground beef right.

I will give them some time to get on their feet as the place is brand new however it is part of an established chain and I would have expected better. The pallette of the NWI resident has improved greatly over the last 10 years and mediocrity won't...

When we first walked in we were instantly impressed with the atmosphere. The place is beautiful and clean and the employees were friendly. We got there around 3 to too late for the lunch rush and too early for the dinner rush. I only saw like 2 other tables taken so they were not busy at all which means there was no need to rush food out...but our food came out super fast. I got 3 steak tacos with rice and beans. Rice had good flavor but such a small portion and seemed microwaved. Steak tacos had zero flavor. My husband had some burrito with 3 meats in it and he said some of the meat had a microwave taste to it. And my 5 yr old complained that her chocolate milk didn't have chocolate. It was a very pale color lol so over all it lacked flavor all around. Seems as if they are just living off the chain name and not trying to build a reputation for...

The service was okay! Very attentive but misunderstood two of our requests. Brought two kids meals when we specifically asked for just one, and put my husbands tacos in flour instead of corn. Menu states chicken tenders and fries but we received chicken nuggets and fries. A little steep on pricing for nuggets. Drinks were excellent. However, we’ve eaten the same entrees at other locations and the food did not compare at all. My entree was flavorless and runny. The guacamole was the same, flavorless and runny. I make better guacamole at home. It was not busy in the restaraunt, mostly empty tables. I believe the food was rushed it came out very fast. I would have waited more time for better quality. I don’t leave this review to discourage anyone, but I’m hoping it’s informative so that the restaraunt can work on this. Step up the food and...
