I have been let down by so many bakeries in my area but when I saw Bobby Boy Bakeshop on PBS Carolina Weekend I knew I had to try it. We went late on a Saturday the first time and the selection was limited but we got one of everything. Each pastry was a little work of art. There were many complex layers that came together to make amazing desserts worthy of a Michelin star. Each one had the perfect amount of sweetness and flavor balance. I find that most Southern bakeries are too sweet for my taste buds but they get it right. These are more sophisticated flavors so they might not go over as well with little kids. They usually have cookies or brownies too that may wow them. We visited again today and got one of everything we did not try the last time. My daughter loved her chocolate croissant and my son enjoyed his chocolate brioche. My favorite that I tried today was the Opera Torte. It was like a spongey but kind of firm tiramisu rich in coffee flavoring. I also got the cranberry and while I am normally not a fan I like the balance of this desert and it was very smooth with a little crunch from the cookie base. I have a couple more to indulge in for tomorrow. The price ranges from $3.75 for a cookie to I believe the highest pastry is $9. While they may seem high for one small dessert you have to keep in mind that these are complex pastries that take many steps and a skill that is higher than the average home baker. Now on to the atmosphere. The bakery itself is well styled with modern finishes. There is a wine bar but I am not sure if it is a separate business or not. In the front of the building there is a gravel area with raised planters and built in tables. Along the fence there are hooks for you to attach your dog. Out back there is a deck with additional sitting and patio heaters. We choose to eat at the planters up front and had a chat with a gentleman that was out walking his dog. The neighborhood is very nice and safe. This has officially became my go to bakery in the Triad and I have tried the majority of them including specialty shops like Mexican panaderias. Hands...
Read moreINTRO: The BEST French bakeshop in Winston-Salem and the greater Triad area. The quality and variety of their pasties is unlike anything you'll experience in this city. The intricacies and delicacy of their pastries resemble that of bakeries found in Paris, France. As a world traveler, I have been to France. Honestly, some of the bakeries in France are subpar compared to Bobby Boy. When I say that you won't be disappointed, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. That's the Zack guarantee.
ENTREE 1: Twice Baked Almond Croissant ($4.50) - In the center of this croissant, you'll find a warm chocolate surprise that will complement the fluffy and flakey croissant. The outer crust of the croissant will give you that "crunch" texture, which is instantly be balanced out by the soft and airy inside of the croissant 10/10
ENTREE 2: Apple danish ($3.75) - A standard apple danish. Honestly, I felt like the apple to filling ratio was off, which caused the danish to taste a bit dry. 6/10
ENTREE 3: Chocolate Coffee Caramel ($7.00) - Coffee creme, vanilla caramel, hazelnut financier. The richness of the chocolate will make you feel like you have a million dollars in your bank account. That's how rich this chocolate is. But it gets better. There's multiple layers of different types of chocolate, topped off with a chocolate cover. 10/10
ENTREE 4: Santa Hat ($7.50) - Buckeye truffle, peanut butter mousse, chocolate sponge, peanut butter crunch. This pastry will literally melt in your mouth. Your mind won't be able to process the different flavors that are partying with your tastebuds. This item is the definition of a food-gasm. 10/10
DRINK 1: Iced Vanilla Latte ($4.50) - Bland, tasteless. 3/10
DRINK 2: Iced Americano ($3.00) - Standard Americano, nothing special. 5/10
WORTH IT? ABSOLUTELY. The pastries will make you feel like you're in France. The drinks, less so....

Besides being asthetically pleasing --- they were delicious!
Easy on the eye AND palate! The traditional eclair was just as one would want it to be. Light and creamy.
The Chocolate Coffee Caramel was rich and smooth with a delicious espresso after-taste.
The Blue and Yellow had a wonderful lemon taste to it and the Lime Entremet was a refreshing lime taste (as the name implies). Neither were overpowering. They both had just the right amount of their tangy citrus flavoring.
Great conversation pieces to place on the table after dinner and everyone will "ooh and ahh" over the presentation --- AND the taste.
They are delicate --- so plan accordingly when transporting. If you have an insulated bag in which to carry them --- that would probably be ideal if your trip to your destination is 1 hour.
Definitely keep them out of the heat of the sun as they are being kept cool in the display case.
We requested several of the condiment containers with some ice in them to help keep them cool.
The staff was fabulously accommodating to us and went above and beyond to tape the ice containers to the bottom of the box so they didn't jostle around.
This was our second visit here. Our first partaking of desserts. In the future --- as we pass anywhere near here --- we will stop in.
The food is truly delicious! The Blueberry-Ginger beverage is very refreshing. The staff...
