WOWWWWWW!!!!!! Never in my life have I so thoroughly enjoyed the food I bought at a bakery!! Every other time I go somewhere and buy something that looks good but is sorely disappointing - NOT HERE!
Dough-Joe's clearly puts so much care and effort not only into making their food fresh and delicious, but also into perfecting the atmosphere of their café area! It's in a great location (be sure to give yourself time to explore the whole shopping area down there! It's SO COOL), the whole store is beautifully put together and looks so comfortable, and they had up a TON of decorations for the season and holidays!
Now, the food? Well, I just came for the donuts, but I was also tempted by their beautiful scones and biscuits! What I bought:
Cinnamon Sugar donut (top left) Apple Cider donut (top right) Maple Glaze donut (middle left) Caramel Glaze donut (middle right) Coffee Glaze donut (bottom left) Plain Glaze donut (bottom right)
They made all of the donuts fresh and brought them out hot! I honestly ONLY expected to like the cinnamon, maple, and caramel donuts, but even the coffee donut is so good! I don't even like coffee! You can tell which ones are my favorites by how much of each donut I've already devoured 😂 The only reason I've spared the cinnamon so far is because the others also have cinnamon sugar and I can already tell I'll love it.
I also got a Buttermilk Biscuit (top left), Chive & Mozzarella Scone (top right), Fall Spice Scone (middle), Sourdough Choco Chip Cookie Cake (bottom left), and some kind of citrusy muffin (bottom right). They all just looked SOOOO good, so I took a chance on them and was so pleasantly surprised that their flavor lives up to the appearance! Also, all of these baked goods were so soft, fluffy, tender, and FRESH!! To be fair, I bought them at 9am, but I didn't think they would all be so soft and almost warm! Really just SO good.
I've already eaten half the biscuit, part of the chive scone (YUM!! definitely buy one, or a few of these!!) and sampled the spice scone (which actually has a mix of holiday spices that deliver a pleasant little kick) and cookie (which was way better than I expected!!).
All in all, this place really blew my expectations right out of the water. The donuts are delicious, light, and fluffy, and everything else is good enough to make me actually want to eat it instead of just passing it off to somebody else. I'm so excited to come back some time and see what else I can try!! THANK YOU...
Read moreI don’t normally write negative reviews. My approach is more to hype up the businesses I believe in. But the staff at Dough Joe’s has been consistently unfriendly—and, at times, completely rude—for the past year or two and feels worth addressing. It has cast such a shadow on my experience of the place that it has made it difficult to enjoy the incredible environment, and undesirable to endure for the sake of (delicious) donuts.
Today, I was passive aggressively addressed several times, as I was unaware that the shop was closing early due to snow and sat down with the tea I had purchased. When I sought clarity about when they were closing (since it was 3 hours before posted time), I was met with an ambiguous answer followed by silence and eye-rolls. It was really confusing. As we were leaving (within the window loosely communicated), it was implied that we were overstaying our welcome when we inquired about the bathrooms.
Shortly after, a kind young man walked in looking to put in his resumé, and wasn’t even able to speak. He was immediately addressed with a raised tone and such contempt about closing time happening “in one minute” that I was shocked. I’ve heard that it is not a good work environment, so I am glad that he dodged a bullet.
As a lover and frequenter of Reynolda, I wish I could enjoy this spot. I have given it many chances to prove me wrong, and today was honestly my last attempt.
Owners, please consider improving whatever needs to be improved in order for your employees to enjoy their jobs. If they’re that miserable, something must be wrong from the top down. It is reflecting poorly in your community. This is an impression that several people I know have of your establishment. We all want to love Dough Joe’s. Please, help us love...
Read moreThis used to be our favorite spot, but tonight was a totally different story. Dough Joes has decent coffee and tea for a local shop with made to order doughnuts and a few pastries. The service though unlike previous times is obviously a problem in the evening. Tonight I stopped in and ordered a few baked goods and doughnuts along with some drinks, I gave them my name tipped 25% and moved along like the rest. My wife met me here with some dumplings from the shop across the way as she was on her way to work a 13 hour shift. Instead of walking over to us and kindly asking us to not eat the outside food as we waited for our items, a girl popped her head around the corner announcing to the entire room that the actions wouldn't be tolerated in the future. She then turned and left us be. I had my wife quickly slip her small container of dumplings in the bag and go to the vehicle. I then quietly waited on the doughnuts for quite a while as everyone ignored me. Finally after nearly 30 minutes from the order, someone from the counter called and said aren't these yours? No one ever called my name and the girl with the order walked right past me. Our made to order doughnuts just sat on the counter to get cold. I thought I was doing a nice thing getting a sweet treat for a local health care provider before her shift, but next time we'll remember dough Joe's just isn't the place for those things. And that's sad with how often we come to Reynolda and how often we...
