I guess I have to agree that the prices are sort of high for Mexican food, but I have never been disappointed with the meal I have tried. I am an adventurous eater and really try to have something new each time I go there, but I have already developed a list of favorites. The Burrito Colorado is filled with big chunks of meat that is tender and full of flavor. The Zarrapies (sp?) are also very good. I also love the Chicken Mole'. You get a entire half of a chicken and the Mole' sauce is excellent.
As for the service, I have always found the waiters to be better than average and very personable once they have gotten to know you. I have NEVER had to search one out to get whatever I might need.
I have found many Mexican restaurants in Roseburg but I would rate the food here as the best in the area. I don't mind paying a little more if I get great food. One thing I might mention is that being a recent transplant from California, I have found most of the food in Oregon to lack much spice or hot peppers. When I asked for more heat, Carlos' restaurant owner went back into the kitchen and mixed up a special Jalapenio sauce at my request. When I asked why he did not offer Horchata, he said he tried putting it on the menu but no one ever requested it. He asked his wife to make me up a gallon and gave it to me one time for no cost as a...
Read moreAmazing salsa, great customer service, and the food was decent, but definitely has more potential! What gave them three stars were the drinks and certain details to the food.. every drink we ordered was awful except for the nonalcoholic strawberry margarita. The soda was extremely flat, my daughters orange juice was very watered down/ no flavor, and the soda was even warm as if it was poured out of a 2 liter just before. The food tasted decent, but I do feel the portions are kind of small for the price. We ordered enchiladas and the two put together could have been enough meat for one. The Chile verde was also kind of sweet, and not spicy at all which was surprising and took away from the authenticity of actual Chile verde. Not just this, but the amount of meat there was was barely enough for two small tortillas. The food wasn’t awful, but the portions can definitely be larger, and some more spices can be used in dishes. Other than this, the waiter came by a few times to ask us how things were, we were greeted in a friendly manner, and above all the atmosphere was very refreshing. Just some carbonated soda, larger portions (that reflect the prices), and allow the food to have more spice would definitely up this restaurants game. Nearly 70$ was paid, and I feel with that we should...
Read moreHere's the "too long, didn't read version" - go to Carlos' Restaurante!! You will not be disappointed.
I was driving back to the coast from Medford and randomly found this place on Google. I'm so happy I did. I've lived in Oregon for about 6 years, most of that was in Portland. I'm so impressed by this restaurant off the beaten path. I'd even venture to say it's top 3 best Mexican restaurants I've been to in Oregon.
First off, their Cadillac Margarita is awesome. Strong but an incredible flavor, not TOO strong. They advertise in their menu the quality of the agave in their tequila they use, and it shows.
Next, the salsa is delicious and the perfect consistency. Too often, I find most restaurants' salsa is watery and not very fresh. Carlos' salsa is thick, a spice level to make most palates happy, and very fresh. Well done.
For the entree, man - this is a hat-trick. Or, a triple play if you're more into baseball than hockey. I got the Banderillas de Camarones (pictured) - shrimp, veggies and orange and pineapple over rice. Perfectly seasoned, great balance of flavor. The shrimp was cooked exactly how it should be to be done and still retain juices.
You must try Carlos' if you are in Winston. It's worth going out of the way off I-5 if you're passing through. You won't be...
