Charm Thai — Restaurant in Wiscasset

I really struggled with this review, the place was immaculate, the staff very friendly, the food was just ok. I myself have been in the food industry for over 44 years and I really love to see places succeed. Staffing is a huge problem right now and has been since Covid. The server was super friendly, but the only one on the floor. It was Valentine’s Day, so super busy. The phone rang constantly, and was obviously being answered in the kitchen , a young man was bringing the take out orders out frequently. He was clean and professional which was nice. However, the constant ringing was super distracting for the diners. Maybe they can shut the ringer off in the front? I ordered the pad Thai, as well as a strawberry bubble tea. The bubble tea was listed as $5.50, but if you wanted the bubbles it was $1.00 extra… oookkkay… maybe include them and adjust the price accordingly since you have it listed as bubble tea? The server pointed out that the special was for the pad Thai with a different beverage, but since it was the same price she could make that the special which was very nice. My husband ordered the mango rice, which was delicious. He is not a big fan of Thai food, but he knows I like it and we wanted to support a local restaurant so we went. And yes, he liked it! lol. The problem we had with the meals is that mine came out first, his followed 10 minutes later. The server apologized, and hey, things happen. Lucky one of the kitchen workers was also bringing out plates to the customers. One other problem I had with the menu was they had an iced tea type beverage that if you didn’t want ice in it, they charged an extra dollar… if you don’t want ice it’s extra? Kinda felt like they were trying to get every last dime from you. I totally get the cost of things, but that seemed silly. All in all, they’ve been open a couple months, staffing is difficult, but unfortunately I was not super impressed. Hopefully things get better, but until they do we probably won’t be back for a while. We will try them again eventually, and hopefully they are able to work the kinks out. One other thing, it was cold, and the outside door needs to be adjusted, it did not close properly and every time someone came in so did...

We did take out which was on time. The food was excellent! Having moved here from a place where a Thai restaurant is on every block...I consider myself a pretty good judge. We had an appetizer (crab rangoon, curry puff) and a main (pad Thai, - generous chicken amounts, & a yellow curry) with enough for 2 meals. The crab rangoon was as perfect as the Vietnamese restaurant I was introduced to it 40 years ago and have been comparing it to ever since. One wish...the pad Thai did not come with cut up lime which in my experience, is customary. I had some so no problem but hope it adorns the dish soon. BTW, the sweet sour sauce was also very good. I placed an order to go and it was the lo mein with beef. Was missing the baby corn but all of the other veggies that is listed was in it. My disappointment was the amount of beef it wasn’t enough in it for the price that the dish cost. It could use a bit more oyster sauce to give it more flavor to it also. Other than that it was very filling. I drove home to Boothbay Harbor and my food was still hot/ warm. I will be back to order another item off their menu, I believe in giving every business at least a...
