I’m staying at Chula Vista for a conference. I tried to grab a quick lunch at Kilbourn City Grill before the conference began. I was glad to see there was a salad bar available but weren’t very many options and it seemed overpriced considering that. I also got a bowl of chili which was tasty. Tonight my kids and I hit the waterpark and were looking for a quick dinner before bedtime. We figured the grill would be faster than the chophouse and guessed the to-go counter would be closed. We were seated by the bar immediately. It was overwhelming to have 5 TVs on and facing us. No one stopped at our table for 20 minutes, at which point the bartender noticed my kids flopped over and fading fast, and brought us some waters and took our order. He was very friendly and possibly the highlight of our meal even though he only stopped by for a minute. I also requested to change the channel on our booth-side TVs, so he brought the remotes, but one didn’t work. We waited another 15 minutes or so for our food (which was just a pizza and a cup of chili). They brought a bowl instead of a cup of chili. The barbecue chicken pizza was very doughy, with oddly rubbery chicken slices. The crust seemed to be brushed with garlic butter or something as it was tastier than I expected. Through the rest of our meal, our waitstaff only stopped by long enough to ask a question and get a “yes” or “no” and then left. I had to ask twice for the boxes we needed.

Terrible service, here is why. Saw the hostess with 3 servers standing around. She said to go see the bartender because we wanted to eat in the bar area. Went and sat down after ten minutes. The bartender said it would be 20 minutes b 4, and he could take a drink order. There were 2 bartenders working, walked by us several times. Went to the hostess and explained the situation. Shame on the manager for allowing turf battles at the expense of the customer. Recommend never go here, find a place which appreciates customers. We went uptown to House of Embers and had a wonderful meal.

We had a good dining experience here. There were a lot of people staying at the resort for a weekend competition, so the wait to get a table was extensive, and our service infrequent, due to the place being so busy. There wasn't a single empty table or booth, which made a festive atmosphere. Our server was very nice and apologetic, and we understood as he was probably serving half the restaurant. The food was tasty, particularly the burger. Nice place for a family to dine.

What a mess. I guess the first clue might have been the flatware in the napkins. Half of it was missing. Some settings had a fork or a knife only, one out of five did. Now I must mention that this was a Monday night and business was very slow.

Prices on the menu are reasonable for the most part. Stay away from the salad bar. It is overpriced for what it is. I watched a young man (employee) spend the better part of our meal with a spoon going thru the salad bar picking out things and throwing it away. Not sure what was going on but it was a little disturbing. Sandwiches/burgers do not come with a side. I found this weird. The fries are the krinkle cut fries straight out of Wal-Mart's freezer. Not very appetizing. Fried chicken was actually wonderful! Steaks were horrible. ordered medium...received charred. Had to send them back and then they came back rare. Rare is being generous. They were still mooing. Had to send them back again. Finally when we got them back this time they were neither charcoal nor were they trying to crawl off of the plate. All of that and the steaks were tough and chewy. The staff acted as if was a bother to do their jobs. I would pass on this place...

I'm surprised at some of these reviews. We went three times during our stay at the resort- once for lunch and twice for dinner. Employees were readily available the 1st time and super nice and accommodating. Our server/ bartender Nick said they weren't suppose to be open yet when we went earlier in the day (maybe they close in between breakfast and lunch to reset?), but he helped us out. The pizza was AMAZING!!!! The cheese curds were very yummy, especially with the avocado ranch dip! Who would've thought! There's two trains that go by on tracks overhead that entertained our kids the whole time. The second time we came it was pretty busy. The bartender asked us if we would just seat ourselves and make sure we didn't get forgotten if they didn't come around right away. We got helped by what I assume is the manager before the bartender came around, but the bartender still managed to get out from behind the bar and make sure we had been helped too. We had wings, onion, rings and more cheese curds this time and again everything was pretty yummy. We're definitely glad we lodged and ate here and plan on...
