Seating on a Friday night was difficult and it felt like a battle to grab a few seats. It's a very communal seating arrangement and no host staff to seat you. The customer service was average at best and the wait staff seemed more interested in socializing with each other and rapidly churning seats than providing a quality experience. While they brought our food to our table, you have to grab your own silverware from the front of the restaurant. No one shared this with us when we ordered and it was ackward having to leave our table to do this after having waited for our food. The overall intention of service is like Noodles and Company now that I reflect on the experience. This said, the environment was warm, clean and the ambiance is inviting overall.
I ordered a cheeseburger which was quite small and rather bland. The pickles that came with it were overpoweringly sweet and had an unpalatable flavor that did not go with the meal. The French fries, which cost extra, were okay at best. My friend ordered the mac and cheese. I found the size of their meal to be undersized as well. When I asked how their meal was they replied that they also found it to be a poor experience and they left 3/4 of their meal untouched and had no desire to take the leftovers home. Considering my company, that spoke volumes about the meal as this is not an individual that wastes food. Specifically they told me on our way out that would have to remember to never order the mac and cheese again.
There isn't a lot of competition in the immediate area, save for the Willows Tavern and Murphy's. I'd recommend either of the latter for an overall better dining experience, unless your really locked in to...
Read moreThis is quite a good restaurant, getting 4 stars for a few smaller points, which may not be entirely fair but it’s mostly right. First the good: Gyros meat was on point! Seasoned well, cooked properly (on a spit and sliced off), and plenty of it in the gyro sandwich. Pita was soft enough to be rippable but had also been grilled so it was just crisp enough on the outside to stand up to the gyro juice and sauce. Fries were fresh and crispy, salted perfectly. Ambience is pleasant and low key, casual yet comfortable. Service is very good- buy at counter, they bring to your table joint. Pleasant and friendly staff. Now the Nitpicks: Most gyro places have the yogurt sauce on the side, here it’s already on the sandwich. That’s not in of itself a problem, but they put A LOT on the sandwich- it’s absolutely swimming in it. Next time I go (and I will go again), I’ll ask for the sauce on the side. Again- this still tastes great, it’s just a ton of sauce for something that I’d like to eat like a sandwich. The chicken lemon soup tastes very good, but the consistency is akin to melted cheese. If you’re looking for Avegolemono soup, this is inspired by that, but is not the same-just a warning. Calling this a “Mediterranean Restaurant” is kind of stretching the truth. This is a distinctly Americanized take on Greek food. There’s an gyro on the menu, and there’s a Greek soup and baklava; but it’s still more of an “inspired by Greek flavor” than a straight up “Greek restaurant”. All together- very small nitpicks but overall a very good restaurant. I’ll be back and I encourage everyone to...
Read moreIt's pretty much all the typical American fare you will find nearby - fries, burgers, cheesecurds, mac and cheese, etc., other than a couple gyros. The pork souvlaki is gone, as is the shredded pork pita sandwich the truck used to make with raw cauliflower and carrots - which was really good. The grain salad is very, very sweet. The Athens Fries are their normal fries, but with about a cup of Greek yogurt and feta poured on them. By the time it made it home a short distance away, it was a soupy, inedible, mess. We had ordered regular fries and gotten these by mistake, but didn't catch it until we made it home. The wings are $1.30 each, and they are bone-in, which is nice, but too expensive. The mac and cheese is ok as long as it's eaten hot. Even the Athens salad has changed and I miss the old one. I was hoping the tacos served in the truck might show up on the new restaurant menu because they were so popular, but it doesn't look like they are even doing it as a Friday special. I had hoped that they would go toward a direction of fresher, more Greek style options on the menu when they moved from the truck to the new building. It's still salty...
