Even though this place is a little bit out there, we definitely wanted to make the drive to try it out. If you're in North Asheville, it's pretty accessible. There is plenty of parking and the space is huge.
The inside is very modern and well decorated. I love the story that goes along with the spot. Lots of history. Interesting because it tries to communicate that it is a small business with a rich backstory, but it's really just owned by the same people who own twisted Laurel. Still local I guess?
Very fun that it is a putt putt course. Seems quite expensive unless you go on a night that has a combo deal. The course is very well-maintained. We opted not to do it the day we came because it seems like there was a family moving very slow and we would have definitely been caught behind them waiting. The course is also in a small space so you would have seen each other the whole time. It seems like they also have courts to play different sports, which is super nice.
I was a little disappointed because we had purchased the Asheville independent restaurant book and this is the only place in the book that did "buy one get one half" rather than "buy one get one free". It felt pretty cheap of them because a lot of the other spots are more famous and expensive but they give you more. This made our meal honestly quite expensive for how much I enjoyed it. Not really worth the cost. We like the deal because it allows us to tip a lot. The burger was quality but too salty for me. I think it was the cheese/sauce? Super rich in taste. I will say it all tasted house made. Both the fries and the chips were good options. A ton of food honestly with the side. We opted to get a single burger patty because a double was the same Price for a special and asked for one on the side, but they burnt it. Was nice as they did it give it on the side, but it was not really edible.
I offered to try their seltzer because it is made in house. It seems as though they make the seltzer and then add the flavor. I thought it was absolutely disgusting. I liked the idea, but the flavor was so gross. Perhaps there is something in crafting a drink with the flavor in rather than adding it at the end. Tasted like cheap alcohol and quickly made. And it was not cheap in cost. Maybe the beer would be better?
Service was pretty decent, but it's really just order at the counter and then they try to get you to tip a huge amount. All of the workers were incredibly kind though. And they were knowledgeable as well. Great seating with beautiful views. A very clean looking bar and nice bathrooms.
I was really in between a three or four here, but I would come back and...
Read moreI don't understand the hype of this place. My family and I came in over the weekend to try something new. I had high hopes from the reviews and how beautiful the place is. My husband ordered the BBQ Nachos. Those were not good. The chips were exceptionally hard, and there wasn't hardly any brisket whatsoever. The queso is absolutely the worst I've ever tried! It was like soup and not thick at all! Maybe that is the point of theirs, but I've never seen queso that runny. I ordered the Smoked Chicken Wings with the Blackberry Mustard BBQ sauce. I asked the woman, taking our order if they were saucy, and she said plain as day, "Not really," so I ordered 2 extra "small" cups on the side. $1 a piece for 2 extra tiny sauces? Is that a joke?? When the wings came out, they were drowned in sauce, in which I love, but that was NOT what I was told! I would have never spent the extra $2 had I known they were going to be that saucy! We did not like those wings! The taste all around was gross, and believe me when I say I love me some wings with unusual sauces. I didn't get to eat them. They had a funky taste and the aftertaste was "ugh." They were not soft by any means. I also ordered the Brisket Mac N Cheese - which was okay, but I felt like the cheese sauce was a little bland. I will say that it was saucy, though. The one thing that stunned me was the very little portion of brisket and BBQ sauce on top of it. It was like a sprinkle of both. Not even exaggerating! That was super disappointing and not worth the money! I basically paid for Mac N Cheese! I had to ask for 2 ranch (which is by far the best), 2 blue cheese, and 2 extra BBQ sauces (yum). Each sauce (besides the blackberry BBQ sauce) costs an extra 0.75 cents a piece. Each one is tiny as well. I had no idea I was going to be charged that much for each sauce.
My father ordered a salad and the Shrimp And Grits. Now those were delish! My mother-n-law ordered the meatloaf sandwich and fries. The sandwich was pretty good. The fries were good.
I will say that I like the convenience of being able to get your own napkins, drink, boxes, etc. It makes things a lot easier and more convenient. The place is stunning and a majority of the staff is super friendly. We (my husband and I) might give this another try and order something different, but it won't be any time soon. I just wasn't overall happy, and believe me, I'm not a picky eater. I just don't understand the price point and how much you get for what you pay for as well. I left hungry, that is for sure :( I drove over an hour away just to eat here....
Read moreOur family trotted in for Father's Day brunch atop my strong muscular back. After admiring my lustrous chestnut coat and deep black mane the attendants combed and massaged me at once. This is how The Stallion expects to be treated and I was justifiably nonplussed, for I am the Stallion...Mang.
As an obligate herbivore I was impressed to see the deep vegetarian menu on offer. I opted for a 64x (that's 64 portions) Summer Salad with 14 extra apples and No Nuts, because they make me prance too much. I was very appreciative of the care and haste (in that order) with which my salad(s) were presented. My feedbag was stuffed to maximum capacity. The staff clearly cares about the happiness of each guest who they've the pleasure to serve, regardless of species. Of course, I was seated on the patio due to food safety regulations.
My family (all considerate human beings) had the two things the staff told them were favorite creations of the back of house: brisket egg rolls and double smash burgers, with a starter of mushroom frites! It was clear to me that they were all pleased because they ceased running their traps for the entire time we dined. This pleased me greatly as I was finally granted a brief moment of reflection on my rise to, and maintenance of, glory.
As for the beers: I chose one half barrel of the Maize Runner, as it contained bloody butcher corn (a favorite of mine when blended with my feed) and malted barley. I was as happy as a pig in $h#t and I promptly rolled about in appreciation on the grassy drainage area after quenching my deep thirst. To say I was "Turnt Up" would be no exaggeration.
The Family had a variety of choice beers and seltzers during our time at SFMBCO. Little Kyle (coincidentally also the name of our favorite bartender) loved his mango habanero seltzer, saying he would return again to try to best me in gallons consumed in a single visit. Pandy (MY WIFE!) loved the Holler Atcha, stating simply, "this is the best thing that has ever happened to me." The rest of our crew: Janey, Lenny, Big Jilm, and Sarah drank deeply of Mosey on Over Pilsner and the reportedly delightful Sit A Spell Tropical IPA. As they responsibly wandered out the door after completion of our hours long Father's Day session they courteously reminded the staff that they'd not be looking for a ride because they had, "a horse outside".
Cheers to you SFMBCO. We adore you. We'll definitely...
