I am a little late writing this review, but still felt inclined to share my experience with The Pines Cottages. My husband and I stayed here during our Smoky Mountain Wedding / Honeymoon back in September.
When I was looking for somewhere to stay near the Asheville area, I was immediately attracted to these cottages! Since we would be staying for a week, I wanted somewhere that felt a bit more homey and less sterile than a typical hotel. These little vintage cottages had exactly the charm I was looking for, and for a spectacular price! The small group of friends and family who were attending also followed suit and decided to stay here as well. In the couple of months before my stay, the staff answered any questions I had emailed them with haste. I even requested for a full length mirror in my room as I would be getting dressed for my wedding there, and they delivered with no problem. (I was just expecting a small over the door mirror, instead they gave me a HUGE stand up mirror. 🥹) When we arrived, I was immediately blown away by the natural beauty of the property. Well maintained grounds without feeling overly-manicured. Beautiful trees and a variety of outdoor seating areas for visitors use. The inside of the cottage was very clean, and I adored the interior. They truly maintained the antique feel while also including modern amenities. We were greeted with a cute little 'congratulations' card and a small bottle of wine with two glasses. You could tell that the owners are very personable and detail oriented just by the care of the rooms. Speaking of staff, I cannot praise them enough. From the moment of arrival to our last day, we were met with nothing but attentiveness and warm hospitality. Even from the friendly on-site kitty who lives on the property! (My young son loved giving the cat pets) We had a last minute change of plans as far as our reception went, and the owners gave us permission to utilize the lawn area for no extra cost. They even help us set up! Our last night to stay was supposed to be September 27th. However, due to Helene, our plans had changed. In the couple of days before the storm hit, WNC was being absolutely pelted with nasty thunder storms. According to some locals, they hadn't seen rain to that volume in over a century. We had reservations for dinner near the end of that week, but couldn't even make it off the property due to nearby mudslides. We decided to stay in with the fireplace on and a DVD from their collection. The gentleman from the front office visited our cottage that night with free firewood and asked if we would need anything else. With the impending hurricane coming, he even offered us to stay longer if need be. Though we ended up leaving the next morning, (we are from Florida, and we knew this hurricane was going to be a harsh one) the offer was so greatly appreciated. Shortly after the area was devastated, I hopped on their Facebook to check in. Though some of the cottages suffered severe damages, the ones that were safe they had offered up to locals who were displaced from the storm for free. I believe that speaks volumes about their values and their commitment to their community. Overall, I would absolutely recommend staying at the Pines Cottages. My stay was a memorable and enjoyable one thanks to the kindness of the staff and the charm of the cabins. Asheville is one of my favorite cities, one that I visit somewhat frequently. I call it my second home in my heart, and next time I visit I know exactly where I will be staying. Thank you again to the staff of the Pines Cottages for making sure we had everything we needed, even during one of the most uncertain times the area has encountered. I would give 10...
Read moreI impulsively rented one of these cottages for my family after seeing them offered as a deal on Groupon. I was very pleased.
When we arrived, I met the owners, Tara and Allen, in the office. Both were very gracious. Since we'd never been to the area. Allen recommended a couple of nearby restaurants, both of which we tried, and both of which were excellent. The office has a display of many brochures of area attractions, and the room offered guest books with additional local information.
Our cottage was clean, attractively decorated, and cozy. Set among the trees, with ivy growing along the ground, it was a refreshing change from a sterile hotel room. Having said it wasn't sterile, let me emphasize again that it WAS very clean---clean room, crisp sheets, fluffy white towels, pretty much fresh from the dryer.
I mentioned that I impulsively booked the cottage. I also mentioned that it was cozy. Translated, this means that if I had read the ad carefully, I would have realized that four people would be a bit of a tight squeeze. We were. The cottage we were in would have accommodated two people very comfortably, and three people adequately. Four was asking a bit much of it, but that was my fault, not the owners'. The bathroom was clean, but tiny. Not an issue if there are two or three of you, but a big one if there are four of you and you have to use it as a changing room as well. Again--my fault.
I noticed as I walked around the property that the cottages at the back of the lot were a thin row of trees away from a busy road. I don't think the road noise would have bothered me, but if you think it would bother you, I'd reserve over the phone and ask for a cottage further from the highway.
In fact, Allen and Tara were both so helpful, I'd recommend reserving over the phone so that you can tell them any particular needs you have so they could match you with the best available cottage. They seem like the kind of people who would go out of their way to make sure your needs were met, and who would be honest if they thought...
Read moreThis place is really cute! We stayed in cabin 13. The Pines Cottages was recommended by my best friend who stayed here last year in cabin one. It’s off the main road and like a little, I don’t know couple of acres of tiny house/cabin magicalness. . The staff is super sweet. Miss Rebecca , oh my goodness she took time to tell us all the good sites we were interested in, particularly how to get to waterfalls by showing us the path on a map she had. The cabin had a book which recommended local places to eat places and some other high points which was a nice touch. They do a lot of little extras here like shampoo , conditioner, coffee , good creamer, stocked kitchen for cooking, variety of teas; my experience is that this stuff is not standard. They have housekeeping daily picking up your dirty towels and doing your dishes for you and bed turn down. These are good girls that care about how clean your stay is, you can just tell. The kind of extra service you would really only get at a nice hotel. Anyways good staff is really important and these guys were just great. Did I mention the bed and how comfortable it was....and the cute ,cute , cute fireplace. Would be a total pleasure to...
