Great food, and great service!

We stopped in for lunch after running some errands, and I’m glad that we did. The waitress (I didn’t get her name, but she was super friendly and helpful!) suggested a margarita that was really good. It’s not on the online menu, but it’s called El Corazón. It was incredible, and I’m glad we listened. If you decide to go, make sure you try it out. Not too sweet, not too strong; made with pomegranate, passion fruit, agavé, Cointreau, lime juice, and of course tequila!

For lunch, I ordered the pork mole. It was super savory, and was the perfect balance of chocolate, and spice. The pork was tender, had great flavor even without the mole sauce. It was served on a bed of rice, and was topped with purple pickled onions. It also came with a grilled flour tortilla.

My wife had the Baja Caesar salad with salmon. It’s served on half of a head of grilled romaine lettuce, Caesar dressing, toasted pepitas, red peppers, and queso fresco. The salmon was very tender, wasn’t overcooked, and was seasoned well.

The cantina is very well decorated, had a welcoming and open atmosphere, and makes you feel more like you’re visiting friends than a restaurant. Also, the bathrooms were super clean, and that’s good to see; especially in a restaurant!

I highly recommend stopping by and grabbing some good food, good drinks,...

I live on Sacramento with many eateries serving Mexican food.

Since my first visit, I am quickly becoming a regular at Maria’s Cantina!

“Fresh” is the common denominator here! The chips are light, fresh, and tasty and the fresh and flavorful salsa is a perfect match! .

The fried coconut shrimp appetizer has the best texture and flavor I have ever experienced in prawns and the yellow sweet sauce takes this dish to a new high on my list! A must try!

I order the chili rellanos which comes with choice of beans. I select the black beans, and a small salad medley completes the plate.

The chili rellanos are a beautifully balanced cheese and egg with a respectable size fresh pepper. It is mouth wateringly delicious! And the black beans are seasoned so perfectly they are as welcomed a treat as are the rellanos.

The restaurant has a welcoming rustic atmosphere of simplicity and open space to a ensure a peaceful experience.

Bright colors of Mexico decorating the women’s restroom are so beautifully displayed ithe room itself is a conversation piece! Filled with vibrant hues and accentuated with tole painting throughout the space furnished in rustic south of the border pieces.

I will be...

Kylie is such a wonderful server! She remembers what we like and is so welcoming. Last night we let our picky child order off the adult menu for the first time and were so surprised when the food came out. We hadn't remembered that what she ordered came with salsa on it and Kylie had the forethought to put in the order as sos. Truly saved our night.

The food here is lovely. It's exactly what you'd expect by reading the menu. There aren't any crazy ingredients and it's not served on some gimmicky contraption. It's just simple, home style Mexican. We generally come here when we want home cooked food but don't have enough spoons to cook ourselves. The only thing I would change is adding their amazing fries to the kid's menu because I guarantee they'd get more orders for them.

Atmosphere is calm and on the quiet side. I'm sure they changes when they have bands and such come but we haven't ended up there at those times so I can't comment on that. Great place to bring family or colleagues. They can accommodate large parties and the staff is attentive, so I assume it'd be a great place for a business meeting or...

We hit the dinner crowd and still were seated quickly. The server was friendly and continued to check on us throughout our visit. We were able to get some happy hour margaritas which helped with the overall cost. The margaritas were good and satisfying. I ordered a crispy carne asada tacos plate. The carne and rice lacked flavor and the taco shell was not the greatest, but the salsa inside the taco was good. The refried beans were good and flavourful. My husband ordered an El pastor burrito. The meat was delicious. My mother in law ordered the chicken tortilla soup which she was satisfied with. We also paid for chips and salsa. The chips were good but the salsa was not really authentic salsa, and lacked flavor and spice. The price was a bit much for the portion sizes, however the meals were filling. I would dine in again to see if there are different dishes I may enjoy.

This was my first time back to Maria’s since before Covid started and I really enjoyed it. The folks here were all really nice and our waitress was the consummate professional. We sat outside on the patio. My family truly enjoyed their margaritas and I went with an 805 blonde ale that was cold and refreshing. Their tortilla chips are now my favorite and I am generally not a chip eater. They were a perfect compliment to the flavorful guacamole and oh so tasty salsa that was sooo good that we took a pint home with us. The shrimp tacos were delicious! The carne asada plate came with enough meat for two people and was okay. The pork tacos were tasty and spicy. They offer whole beans as well as refried beans. Will be sampling various tacos on our return trip.
