Conner Flynn's is a unique restaurant nestled on Main Street in Woodruff.
The atmosphere: "where everybody knows your name." From the moment we entered, we were filled with a sense of coziness reminiscent of a local pub. With gorgeous hardwood furniture and the sound of people debating their favorite sports teams, it feels like a place where you and your friends can unwind after a hard week or celebrate your next promotion.
The staff: "be our guest." The maître d' was quick to greet and seat us. Our server, a young man, was the perfect blend of attentive and informed. His willingness to answer all our questions made us confident in what we were about to order.
The price: "let's go somewhere special." The prices are on the higher end, but I wouldn't consider them expensive. This isn't an every-night restaurant; it's a treat-yourself restaurant.
The food: "keep it simple, stupid." For appetizers, we got the pretzels, and they were fresh, soft, and delicious! The cheese was also fantastic, but the 3oz cup wasn't enough for us two cheeseaholics. For the main entrée, I kept things simple and ordered the burger and fries while my girlfriend got the fish and chips. My burger was cooked to my specifications and tasted great. The pickle was a nice addition. The fries were the standard steakhouse fries, which are a classic for a reason. While nothing I ordered was particularly challenging to create, I've always felt you can tell a lot about a restaurant based on its ability to cook something simple, and by that metric, Conner Flynn's is a fine establishment. Jen's fish and chips were also great. She remarked on the fish not being greasy like at another Irish pub we've been to in the past.
The wait: "sitting in the morning sun..." I have to be real—the wait between ordering and receiving our food was on the longer side. It was a crowded night, and this was expected. In restaurants like this, you are often expected to place your order and then chat with your guests until the food arrives, and by that standard, the wait was completely acceptable.
Overall: 8.5 out of 10 I was thoroughly pleased with my dinner at Conner Flynn's. The food was cooked to perfection, and the environment was cozy and inviting. Besides the small wait and the price I have no reason to give this establishment anything less then a 10 but on a five start rating scale this place is absolutely...
Read moreget started, when we walked in there’s maybe 4 tables, max 3 belonging to our waiter, who appears; Spun out. Man didn’t know any of the beers, kept walking back and forth across the restaurant with no agenda and nothing in his hands, but couldn’t take our appetizer order. After we placed drink orders, which took forever since he didn’t know what either a wheat ale or a blonde was, and couldn’t tell us if they even had any lighter ales, I asked for a lemon. He walked back and forth a bunch and eventually we asked the bartender instead. After we FINALLY got our appetizer order given to him, he did more walking back and forth before putting it in. Once we got it, we rushed to get our dinner order in, while asking for a couple sides of ranch. He did a bunch more walking back and forth before we reminded him and he got the ranch to us, with the lemons I’d tried ordering previously, saying “They had to be cut”, but they were sitting in their bar. While we were waiting for our food, I began starting this review because our experience had been baffling up to this point. Suddenly, our waiters demeanor changes dramatically and he’s actually attentive to us. (Mind you, we’re seated in their last booth closest to their kiosk to enter orders, with my back to the kiosk who knows who looked over my shoulder as they walked by..) With his extreme change in demeanor we began getting a little suspicious, but mainly focused on our food, which was GREAT, only reason the place got one star. Now, upon receiving our 3 versions of our check, we noticed something very very interesting. If you’ll take a look at the photos attached, the tip percentage remains the same across both while the actual amount of money underneath the percentage goes up… On otherwise identical checks. The higher the percentage, the higher the increase in money their saying matches the percentage. How many people don’t notice this and end up giving them more than...
Read moreThe server was new and nobody helped her until a lot of things went wrong with our order. Asked about certain things on the menu she didn’t know and didn’t even ask someone to help make sure. Manager told us that unfortunately we were the last order before the kitchen closes and the cooks hate the last order. Asked for grilled onions when I ordered and they forgot soon as our food came out and I saw the manger told me that the cook said he couldn’t do it. Then stated the cooks has already left. Gave 2 beers for the inconvenience and only the manger apologized. The server only took our order and gave us our drinks and appetizers after that she didn’t say anything to us. Was told when the food came out that they didn’t have any pretzels. They did try to accommodate everything but we were told at the last minute if things were unavailable so we had no choice to stick with what we had. At the end the manger told us we could stay and have more beers but the kitchen was shutting down. 10 mins later another guy that works there and told use “you guys need to leave, we closing and I’m the only one here and I’m ready to go home” in a very strong tone not nice at all. The manger just had told us we could stay and order another drink. Addressed my concerns with the manger after leaving and he had a excuse for everything. Told me that maybe the guy told us to leave because he was upset that we left the server $2 and the other couple left $5. Still is no excuse to talk to anyone that way. $55 bill just to not enjoy/have what we originally asked for. First and last time eating there. Drive 30 mins...
