My friends and I picked this restaurant based off a list of American food close to where I live and good reviews. Wow, did we hit the jackpot!
The food was fan-tas-tic! I had the hand battered cod with fries, one friend had a BLT with a side salad, and my other friend had the asparagus soup and a Greek salad. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and stuffed ourselves to finish every bite.
Agon's is the quintessential "mom and pop" style restaurant. They make everything themselves (soups, dressings, etc). When it arrived, it was steaming hot and freshly made to order, and was not lacking in size.
We were a little taken aback at how reasonable the the prices were, especially given the food costs these days, and we didn't leave feeling cheated. Going to chain restaurants these days often leaves me feeling taken advantage of. But not at Argon's!
It appeared like everyone in the restaurant were regulars as they were all chatting with everyone else in the dining area and greeted each other by name. When we entered, they all took time to welcome us with sincere smiles and hellos. I felt like I had just become part of the Argon's family.
The regulars were never nosey and never pressured us into conversation. We felt comfortable only talking amongst ourselves without being eavesdropped. The noise level was low, and we didn't have to raise our voices to be heard. At the same time, I felt that if I had wanted to, I would have been welcome to join in on the small talk. That's a hard balance, but somehow Argon's did it!
I have to say that the strip that Argon's is located in may cause you to think twice (it is in-between a tattoo parlor and CBD shop) and the outside is nothing fancy. But I think that's part of the charm. It's a gold nugget tucked away. Don't let yourself miss out just because it's not flashy or "in your face". It's completely safe, and a 100% "must eat here" restaurant.
I look forward to going back by myself to chat with the regulars or, even better, taking more friends with me and introducing them to the magic behind the...
Read moreLike many have said before, this is a true gem of a mom and Pop style restaurant. It’s the kind of place that was popular 50 years ago and has all but vanished from the restaurant landscape.
It is an unassuming place, in a small commercial strip, but our waitress Sheila was friendly and enthusiastic! When I said it was our first time there, she replied “I thought so,” that in a bad way, but in a “I haven’t seen you here before” way—like she knows all the customers by their faces, and probably by their names too!
She offered us helpful advice on the menu options and specials, and when the food arrived we were surprised by the generous portions and its great taste and quality!
The prices are reasonable too! We will definitely be back again and will happily share our experiences with...
Read moreLike going back in time to a neighborhood family diner. My grandfather used to take me there when I was a kid, 30 years ago. It was just as I remembered it. I had the turkey club sandwich with fries. Despite being very busy (14 of the 15 or so tables filled), the waitress took my order promptly and the food came out quickly and was of high quality at a reasonable price.
Here's a few tips if you decide to give this place a try. Turn your phone off and grab the paper instead. You'll enjoy the experience more if you unplug. Bring cash, I believe they do not accept credit cards. There are not too many places like this around these days... Went it...
