Updated: Shiplap is still the same eclectic mix of coffee house, donut bar, and upscale gift shop but expanded now and has seating - both inside and outside. Also added is a meeting room, more space to shop inside (perfect for families with kids.), a fridge with quick breakfast sandwiches, and a freezer with ice cream novelties.
I applaud the drive and the ingenuity to create such a space. Now if only the parking situation could be rectified.
Original: It is a cute, eclectic mix of coffee house, donut bar and upscale gift shop. Coffee is good, donuts are fresh. The atmosphere is decidedly farmhouse kitsch. The staff has never been anything but warm and helpful.
There are so many goodies tucked away on every surface, wall and corner. A delight for the eyes. Something new to see every which way you look.
But, BIG but, it also makes it stressful to bring my children in. Little hands need constant minding with all the eye level items inviting them to explore. And since the wares are well-made and sourced from artists, as is my understanding, pricing reflects that. Making it all the more imperative my kids look but don't touch.
I would love to see some more seating inside, but I know that floor space is at a premium. So is parking. Which is most of the reason I gave four stars. We would visit more often but there are very limited options for parking. What is available seems to be multiuse for the many businesses situated around Shiplap. Somedays, there just simply isn't a space available to...
Read moreAfter reading some reviews, I finally decided to stop into this little shop Tuesday morning because I was craving donuts. From some recent reviews, it seems like donuts sell out fairly quick in the morning and I knew being pregnant, I probably would cry if I couldn’t get a donut. Parking kind of sucks, but that’s not their fault, I just wish there was more lighting especially with how dark it is walking from that parking lot to their front door. As I walked in, I was instantly greeted by a gal, at first I didn’t see anyone which concerned me, but I think she was counting something because she popped up very quickly. I ordered a half dozen of donuts (basic options: glaze donut, powdered sugar donut with lemon, 2 apple fritters, a maple bar, bear claw). I also ordered a 24 oz lotus and my total came out to $25.66, a little pricey but it’s supporting a small business so not complaining too much about price. When I got home, I instantly ate one donut and it was so fresh tasting, I was scared it might taste weird, I’m not sure why, but I’m glad it tasted just as I expected! Will have to return to the shop more during the day time because they have lots of cute things in their space such as designer jeans, baby outfits and binkys, some shoes and...
Read moreMy daughter and I visited for some hang-out time in a place that we hoped would feel different than Starbucks. Indeed, we met that goal in a nice way.
The setting is nicely dressed in what I would describe as "farmtown revival". The features of the interior are comfortable and full of character.
The baristas were pleasant and efficient. The place appeared clean and welcoming. The coffee and the pastries we had were of good flavor and quality. The pastries are sourced locally.
I was pleased to learn about their calendar of events, which included a meet and greet with local authors, painting classes, mixing classes, and music from the area. That seems to be a missing aspect of other similar places.
Gary (one of the owners) greeted us as we perused the Shop section, and he seemed passionate about engaging and supporting the community.
I felt good about Shiplap Shop and...
