We were traveling on I80 on an early October afternoon (about 1 pm on a weekday) and ate here based on the mainly positive reviews. We were happy with our experience.
It is a large restaurant and we had no trouble getting seated. The restaurant was being kept very clean, with the buffet line being regularly wiped of spills. The overall restaurant was clean and odor free, as was the bathroom.
Soda pop was included in the price. Although they're was a good sized lunch crowd, the friendly wait staff regularly took our sodas for refills, regularly took away dirty plates, and also asked us a few times if we needed anything.
The food variety was large, and unlike some buffets there were a few items that had some spiciness to them. I could have wished for more spicy dishes, but there were pepper sauces for me to add my own heat to a dish. The buffet items were being restocked regularly and before an item was all gone.
I believe there was at least 12 to 15 Chinese entrees, including standards such as Mongolian Beef, General Taos chicken, sweet and sour chicken, a seafood and mock crab meat casserole, pepper chicken, stir fried green beans, etc, but they also had a couple pork dishes, large (and plentiful) shrimp with vegetables in a butter sauce, and a few other chicken choices. I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
I noticed a large choice of American menu dishes, which included standards like fried chicken, potatoes and onions, meatballs, things kids would like, and much more-- I didnt pay much attention because I was focused on the Chinese dishes.
Of course there were the usual sweet and sour soup and egg drop soup ( and maybe a Miso soup), steamed dumplings, large fried wontons ( with a generous filling), egg rolls, etc.
There was a good sized salad bar, some fruit, and a couple varieties of sushi ( which I didn't try). There was a good sized dessert selection with many of the standard buffet items like pudding and little squares of layered cakes, but they also had six flavors of dip it yourself/hard packed ice cream.
My wife and I had no problem finding multiple dishes that we liked, and left satisfied. I regularly eat at Chinese restaurants and buffets, and this place was a good buffet experience.
My only reason for four stars instead of five is that many of the dishes were pretty simple in their ingredients ( for example, a spicy chicken dish was essentially stir fried chicken and onions with red pepper sauce mixed in). It tasted ok but lacked the depth of flavors that a dish with more ingredients, like Szechuan Chicken, might have. If I lived in the area, or was passing this way again, we would happily eat...
Read moreI've been to many chinese buffets. This one, meh. I went on a Saturday night, post dinner hour. You would think on a Saturday night they'd keep up the buffet trays. Not so! Most trays were of items left on for a while, they had that "sticky" look and some were empty. Sushi was old and not made on-site, the rice was gummy, taste-less, and unappetizing. Take a look at my pics, one is of some crab dish. It would be better to just remove the tray and replace it with an empty one then leave that one out. The chicken wings must've been put on at noon, they were drier then a popcorn fart. And don't ask me what the black stuff inside the egg rolls were (gross!). Overall, D+, but for the price ($12) C-. If you want to see what a good buffet is, read my review of the Dekalb, IL buffet, that I went to on a Monday night near closing time (Monday night near closing time vs....
Read moreI am so disappointed in the place. We have been here twice in the past 6 months and for Buffett style it was good. Tonight has changed how I look at this place. Food was terrible. all the trays were full but looked as though they had been there all day. Fried rice was yellow orange and based on the taste it was cooled in lard. The noodles were sticky and slimy. All the seafood looked like bad bait.
I normally don't review a site with such a strong negative review. But the staff/owners did not seem to care when asked about the quality and would not answer how long it bad been out in the steam tables. The place is normally very clean but dated. Much has changed in 30 days. It looks like no one has swept or mopped in a while and the place smelled of sewage. We sat down for a plate and immediately got up and left. Thank God there is now another Chinese...
