I followed some suggestions of others on this site and finally tried the Flower Shop winery. It was a train wreck. I hate to say it because I really wanted to love this place. I just can’t.
I want to say that I really wanted this place to be great. We had a couple of friends in town and wanted to take them to a quiet winery and just enjoy dinner. When we went in, it was a bit confusing at first. It took us a few minutes and get our bearings and figure out that we ordered at the counter and they had menus there. We went on a Saturday night so expected it to be busy. The parking lot was full but most customers were on the patio as they had live music out there. Was good for us, we could sit inside and just enjoy conversation with our friends. We went to the counter and this is where the train wreck of a night started.
The customer before us went to the cashier and asked to speak with a manager about their order or lack of food. He was told ok they would get a manager. He then began a back and forth with the counter staff. With a pregnant worker apologizing and telling him they were a restaurant and the employees were only human. The back and forth carried on for a couple of minutes and I stepped away because I believed the customer was being a little excessive. When the manager got there, she the worker and the customer continued talking. The worker wouldn’t let the manager address the issue and the manager began yelling at the employee telling her to go home. We should have just went somewhere else, but hey, we were already there and I don’t know the history.
We waited until things calmed a bit and went back to the counter to order. The couple with us ordered loaded garlic knots and a pizza. We ordered at the register next to them and ordered rosemary cheese bread, a ceaser salad, and a Detroit style pizza. Both completing the orders at roughly the same time.
We sat down and waited. The other couples loaded garlic knots came out, except they got regular garlic knots. Nothing loaded about them. They got up, went to the counter and showed them and were told to go ahead and eat the ones they were served and they would remake them. While waiting for the second order their pizza arrived and they ate it. Then the remade garlic knots were delivered. Mind the fact that nothing had been delivered from our order.
After about an hour and no food from our order coming, when the manager delivered the remade food, we asked about ours. She took our receipt and went to check on it. About 15-20 minutes later she came back with our bread and salad. We were told they didn’t put a table number on our order so they didn’t know where to take the food. So they just left it sitting in the kitchen and had to remake it all. The rosemary bread was great. The ceaser salad came with ranch dressing instead of ceaser dressing. But hey we got food. At that time she told us our pizza was just going in the oven. Now about an hour and 15 minutes after we ordered. Our Detroit style pizza was delivered about 15 minutes later. It looked amazing… I’m sure it would have been great. If they would have served it when it was hot. They didn’t. We didn’t complain. No need to pile on the stress they were already dealing with. We just tried to eat it and ended up boxing it and bringing it home to reheat later.
I wanted to love this place and honestly may give it another shot. But this time it just didn’t come close to meeting my expectations.
I am not sure what the problem was but staff was the most obvious concern. The menu looked promising, the food could have been amazing. It...
Read moreMy friend and I came out for the Boozy Book Fair that was hosted by the Flower Shop and Knights Nook bookstore. We got there at 6. They seemed completely unprepared for any kind of event at all. The place was packed, there was a line to even get in the door to order. It took us an hour to even get inside the building. Everyone had to order at the bar, and even though there was plenty of seating, the majority of the tables were dirty and hadn't been bussed. I couldn't see any staff except the woman taking orders at the bar. We finally ordered, and they gave us our drinks right at the bar and we went to sit on the patio. It was shady, and they had nice string lights set up, but it looked like they were in the middle of renovations, because some of the ground was dug up, and a lot of the plants were dead. We sat down at 7, and at 8, we were still waiting for our orders. We each got an individual 10" pizza. No waiters or anyone had even come out to the patio, even though it was packed with people waiting for their food. Finally at 8:30 I got my pizza. No plates, napkins or forks came with it. My friend and I shared mine, because she still hasn't gotten hers. Finally, at 9, her pizza came out, and the waiter that brought it was very kind, she was very apologetic and offered us free gelato, but we needed to go so we didn't take her up on it. I think some more planning, like a limited menu or tickets purchased in advance for the event would have been helpful. Some extra staff and some signage about where to stand in line and what was available would have been great. I'd be interested to go back on a night they weren't having...
Read moreMe and my daughter went to eat...I'd say it was around 3:00 or 3:30 something that afternoon.. on the 5th which was Friday of September... We were greeted by one of your staff that was wearing Jean cut-offs in a kind of greenish top shed brunette hair can't quite remember the name, but the attitude she possessed was something that you one could not forget... Was being generally friendly just asking questions and thought that a question was to personal? Was asked well hey you say you lived on the south side so what high school did you attend... Got real crabby about the question and says that's personal stuff I don't talk about that.. that stuff that anybody talks about and don't act personal about... Then I asked a question about your wine said that she didn't know so I go to ask some of your other staff the same question to see if they might have more knowledge about the wine... They turned to her as she came through the kitchen door into the lobby and asked her the question I asked... She said in a rude voice I already answered that question once... Might want to see if there's something going on with that person or if it is drugs that's causing the issue... A normal person does not act in this manner or do they respond to people in this way. Your food was pretty good I'll had to admit.. but that person's attitude made the atmosphere suck !!!!! If you're a professional I would have a talk with her...
