Dirty South BBQ is very inviting from the road, so inviting I had to stop and give them a try. Outside you can see their smokers, both are stick burners, and look well seasoned. Entering the restaurant was awesome, I was in awe looking at their decorations, it was heard to just sit at the table and wait for the food, I had to walk around and see everything. The people who work at Dirty South BBQ make it a pleasure to be there. Unfortunately we already had lunch so we ordered a pound of pulled pork. When we received out food we were looking forward to some good BBQ. When we opened up our box something seemed a little off, it looked fried. After tasting it we had to ask how they cooked the meat. First we were told it was cooked in the smokers outside, but when I said it tasted a little different, we were told after they smoke it they fry it. I like a more traditional BBQed meat, so I decided to put on some of their BBQ sauce, it was very watery, sweet, and not very much flavor. When I said something I was told their speciality was ribs, so next time I'll try the ribs. I hope they are good, I hope they don't fry them. They get three stars because of the staff, and decor, they will get more stars if they have good ribs, and the food improves. I've only been there once, and plan to give them another try.
I dropped them from 3 stars to 1. I called Saturday to order 2 racks of ribs I would pickup Sunday, I was told they would be ready a little after 10:00am, so I said I would be there at 10:30 to make sure they would be ready. I ended up getting there at 10:45, and was told they wouldn't be ready for another hour. I drove from San Diego and was going to Havasu, I didn't want to wait another hour when I had a few more hours to drive, and above that the owner was unwilling to come over and apologize. Ribs are easy to cook, about 5 hours at about 225 degrees, this was...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped by 2 weeks ago on our way back from Lake Havasu and it was packed so we took a peek in and said we would come back another time. When I had looked in I saw someone with a platter of meat on a silver tray and someone else who had ribs. I commented to the nice front counter staff employee how good the ribs looked. Because they looked great, when we decided to return we asked friends to come with us. Reviews seemed good so I was pretty pumped to try the variety of meat, especially the ribs. We came back today, Thursday, Feb 13th for lunch.
To my surprise, they only serve ribs on Saturdays. Boy was I disappointed. I wish the lady at the front two weeks ago would have mentioned that - or at least they could mention that somewhere easy to see on the website. I ordered the cheesesteak with onions and peppers. My friends ordered some sliders, but they didn't have the buns; odd considering this was supposed to be one of the specials. So she ordered the taco, which when it came was ridiculously small with little to no meat. My wife shared some of her tri-tip sandwich with her so she didn't starve. Her husband ordered the burger which was barely warm and undercooked. My cheesesteak with onions and peppers came with onions but I'm not sure where the peppers were. The meat was all okay, but no real solid bbq taste.
The two sides were anything but spectacular. Cheese on the Mac and Cheese is likely Velvetta melted and the beans were simply bland; both not something I would have expected from a place called "the dirty south".
If any of you folks want to try a real good bbq, go to the Phoenix area and try Caldwells. You won't be dissatisfied with them and the tasty meats and sides they have.
For supper tonight, we went to Dave's in Yuma and it was unbelievable. Spend your hard earned money somewhere that provides tasty food in good...
Read moreA group of 7 people I was with had lunch at this restaurant yesterday. Most of us ordered sandwiches, I ordered a sliced beef brisket. When my sandwich was served I took the top bun off to look at the meat, I was served two approximately 7 inch by 3 inch pieces of meat folded in half. I unfolded the slices and discovered large areas of fat in the center of the slices. When the server asked if everything at our table was ok, I stated no, would you please look at the meat in my sandwich. I stated my dislike for the fatty meat, he said lots of people like fat including him. I was offered no replacement meat, nothing. I also told the server I was not hearing from him what I expected a server to tell a dissatisfied customer. After finishing my meal, I took the two fatty slices of meat on a napkin to show the cashier. She immediately said I will get you some more meat. I declined explaining I was no longer hungry, but I was very disappointed how the server had handled the situation at the table. The chef came out of the kitchen and said he sliced the brisket for my sandwich. I politely told him the meat was sliced wrong and contained to much fat, he said f—k you get out of here. The server came out to the counter loudly yelling at me to get the f—k out, get off his property. Someone brought out a sandwich in a basket. The server tried to give me this sandwich, he shoved it towards my face.He stood over me yelling get the f—k out old man. I kept my composure, I did not swear of get physical with any of the employees. The server threw the basket and sandwich on the floor. This whole episode was almost unreal, I would never patronize this business again. I thought about contacting the sheriffs office, but they truly have better...
