Best birria tacos in the area hands down - arguably in Michigan & Chicago (which I frequent for Mexican food.)

I’m originally from Los Angeles & have been missing my mom’s birria. This is as close to hers as I’ve found anywhere in the U.S. I got the 16 quesabirria platter & my group devoured them. I forgot to take a picture of the tray beforehand. 😅

I got the tray to go, but the Zeeland location is very nice & has more seating than the smaller location in Grand Rapids. I also just got a tray to go from the GR location a while back.

I also got a shrimp cocktail (not pictured because I also forgot before I devoured it) & it was SO GOOD! There’s a mariscos lonchera (seafood lunch truck) at a park nearby where I grew up in Los Angeles that does cócteles de camarón, campechanas, tostadas de ceviche, etc. & I have found nothing like that anywhere in west Michigan.

There’s places in Detroit that do great Mexican seafood & shrimp cocktails, but this is exactly what I was missing! The cocktail was a super generous size for $15. The food is only okay, went there because I heard raving reviews about the Grand Rapids location. I ordered the Birria bao and the queso Birria tacos. The Birria bao were incredibly disappointing. There was little to know Birria meat on the “bao buns” only gave me a small 2oz container of cilantro and onions for my meal. The consume had no flavor and was strictly broth with no chucks of meat cilantro or onions in it, it visually resembled rusty water. Overall not worth the 16$ The Quesobirria tacos were fine nothing special about them. 16$ for 4 tacos no rice or beans it’s quite expensive. The owner is incredibly rude also. If you don’t like the food and post a bad review or speak your mind the owner will flame you on Facebook and business pages and tell you “stay out of our page period! And that you definitely never had real Mexican food.” “That their product speaks for themselves. Well their inability to take criticism is laughable at best. 10/10 would...

The food is ok, service is bad. We waited 40+ mins for a to go order and multiple people that ordered after us were already eating. The building is very small for the amount of people that are eating in. There’s no place to wait for a to go order, especially one that takes 40+ mins. The TV is blasting music, and it is very hard to hear the person taking your order. The menus are paper on the main counter, so you have no way to look at what they offer until you are at the counter to order. Want salsa? They don't have it. Maybe the TV that’s blasting music should be used for a menu rather than making it almost impossible to hear anything. Pricing is what you would expect for this area in 2025.
