Someone mentioned in another review having been coerced to write a positive review, so I am writing this review just as a service that the current 4.8 rating this place has is out of line with reality. I use the reviews to make choices!
The pizza was pretty good. We shared a Diavolo. Cheese, crust and sauce were good. As another reviewer mentioned, the meat was added cold after the pizza came out of the oven and was sliced. To warm the meat up, the pizzaiolo briefly ran a torch over it. That’s different from what I was expecting and I think the meat would have been better had it gone in the oven, though it was “fine.” The pizzaiolo brought the pizza to the table with a smile. Credit to the pizzaolo for efficacy, skill and service orientation, even if the preparation methods are different than what I would expect.
Our server told me they didn’t have Coconut coffee and seemed annoyed that I then ordered a coconut milkshake, though she agreed to process the order. I ordered the drink and pizza at the same time and the milkshake was my only drink. The milkshake was tasty but it arrived after we were finished eating the pizza.
The actual room and furnishings were nice. However, all the staff were coughing. There are dead flies in the meat cooler that we sat near. There is a fish tank with live fish on the counter that is in desperate need of cleaning.
This place was ok and doesn’t deserve a “bad” review, but the current average rating is a definitely an overstatement of the quality...
Read moreWe love this place. The vibe is very americanized like. My favorite part is the dumbwaiter, the tiny elevator machine that carries food up and downstairs.
Are the pizzas good? Yes. Are they the best I've had living in America and traveling all the time? No, but it's pretty close. I would rank this place third in good quattro formaggi pizzas. With that, I'll start from worst to best:
The tea: I'm not sure what kind of tea it is since I can't find the drink menu at the time of this review. The tea was okay, sweet and sour, like an Arnold palmer.
Manzo-Pizza Bò Tươi: I love the fresh arugula, but that's Vietnam--vegetables are amazingly fresh here. If I had to change one thing, I would add garlic to it. The beef was okay, I think the quality could be better.
Fresh squeezed OJ. The oranges must have been on point that day. It was super sweet.
Top of my list: the quattro formaggi pizza. It was delicious. This is the third best quattro formaggi pizza I've had. Top is a little shop in Oahu, and the second is Urban Crust. What this place did well was having a thin crust that supported the cheese. Urban Crust falls apart underneath the cheese. What Cardi could improve on is the ratio of the cheeses. I felt like a little less mozzarella, and more blue cheese would have made the pizza...
Read moreLet's talk about the positives. The Italian food at this place is good. However the service and atmosphere is bad.
The waiters are liars. Yes, I used the word liars. When I asked for more cheese powder for my spaghetti, they said they ran out of it. But guess what, when I went to the second floor, I saw the local people eating food with more cheese powders. There is clearly discrimination, as they preferred to serve their local folks and treat the foreigners such. More importantly, how can an Italian restaurant run out of cheese!? What kind of impression do you think it will give?
I then had to wait for 15 minutes for the bill to come. When I told them that the service was bad, the waiter replied curtly that they were under staffed. But I can see 5 staff at the counter area.
I'm glad I'm a foreigner. Because I will never...
