Nestled amidst the cool mountain air of Da Lat, Hoa Thông BBQ & BISTRO isn't your flashy, tourist-trap kind of place. It's a hidden gem with a laid-back vibe that quickly won me over.
The Atmosphere: Walking into Hoa Thông feels like stepping into a friend's backyard. The open-air space is decorated simply, with wooden tables and benches and fairy lights twinkling overhead. The music was a mix of chilled tunes and Vietnamese classics, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The Food: The menu offered a variety of familiar and more adventurous options. I went for a mix, starting with the classic "nem nướng" (grilled pork skewers) and some fresh spring rolls. Both were delicious, the meat perfectly cooked and the vegetables bursting with flavor. Then, I ventured into something new: "thịt trâu gác bếp" (smoked buffalo meat). It was surprisingly tender and flavorful, a smoky, unique experience.
The highlight of the meal, however, was the homemade dipping sauce. It was a creamy, slightly sweet concoction that complemented everything I tried. I could have seriously just dipped bread in it all night!
The Service: The owners were the heart and soul of the place. They were incredibly friendly and attentive, taking the time to chat with me and explain some of the dishes. They even shared a bit about their passion for using locally sourced ingredients and traditional recipes.
Overall: Hoa Thông BBQ & BISTRO isn't a fancy restaurant, but it's exactly what I was looking for: a delicious, authentic, and down-to-earth experience. The food was great, the atmosphere was chill, and the owners were genuinely welcoming. If you're looking for a taste of local life and some good conversation, I highly recommend...
Read moreIt is a really lovely brewery ruined by the kitchen that serves mediocre food at best. My Burger Heo contained COLD pulled pork. After raising the issue with the waitress, she queried the kitchen, who informed her that the meat is served at room temperature 🤯🤢🤮!!! (a burger should be hot, and that's that). Cold meat and hot meat doesn't allow bacteria to grow....but semi-warm meat is growth bonanza for bacteria (also makes me wonder how they safely achieve room temperature???) After a bit of Google Translate conversation, the remainder of my burger was taken away back to the kitchen. The remnants were returned back to me partially warmed up....simply atrocious for 145k. Aside from this poor result, some of the wedges supplied with the meal were undercooked. I was planning on eating more off the menu and having a few more drinks...but instead I left. On a positive note, the new Mulberry Cider is delicious, as to the standard Bia Gung (alcoholic Ginger beer)....but you are paying a premium of 55k for a 230ml bottle of each. Noteworthy was that my bottle of Ginger Beer was served warm. The staff are friendly and somewhat helpful, but I can not deny the fact that I was served cold food and warm beer = very unappealing. The place has lots of outdoor seating and a large indoor dining area, which is insignificant if the kitchen can't provide decent food. Sorry, but I can not recommend Hoa Thong Brewery for meals....OK if you want drinks only at a premium price. Lastly, to add insult, the waitress told me the food cost would be removed from the bill....when I went to pay, the food cost was still included in the total price. They can't even get their...
