When I googled Halal restaurant in Hanoi, I wouldn't expect Batavia would pop up on the list, mainly because it is quite rare to find Indonesian restaurant abroad. Especially in Vietnam, so we decided to visit the restaurant. First, we were welcomed by Mas Mirza, the manager (I think) or the man in charge of this fine establishment. The staffs were very welcoming, and they explained the menu just fine. Second, the ambience were spot on, very familiar as we often found in an Indonesian restaurant, they played Indonesian songs in the background, with a lot of photos and memorabilias, to remind us even we were far from home, you could get the feeling of being home in this restaurant. And third, the most important, the food. They were just fantastic, the spices were balanced, the seasonings were spot on, and the taste was just as authentic as it could. We ordered Mie Goreng Kalang (great), Soto Ayam Lamongan (good), and Tongseng (sweet and savory). All of it were good and tasty, feels like home. So if you were happened to be in Hanoi, don't hesitate to visit this restaurant, wether you are Indonesian who wants to taste 'home', or locals who just curious to taste what Indonesian food is.
Good luck on your endeavors. May the success be...

We had to call very loudly three times when one of the servers was a few metres away from us on his phone. And when I got up to pay at the cashier there were four staff right in front of me at the counter who were ALL on their phones and it was so strange that I had to call out for someone to realise I was even standing there to pay.
Otherwise, a very...
Read moreWe walked in without reservation so we’re seated upstairs which is not as nice as downstairs. Downstairs was all pre booked with reservations so this was understandable. And that is the only negative. The food was outstanding. Beef rendang was out of this world. The server told us that this is a bestseller, and we could see why. All the other dishes were delicious, and just what we were craving for after 3 days of seafood on a HaLong Bay cruise. Halal. And the mango milkshake and the hot coconut and ginger drink were really welcomed by our tummies. If we had found this sooner, we would have eaten here every day. The spice level is more suited to the Indian palate than traditional Vietnamese food. So if you are craving a bit of something different during you 2 weeks in Vietnam, then...
