I ordered a bacon pizza which on the menu states tomato sauce, cheese and bacon. The pizza arrives with onion underneath the cheese, I am intolerant to onion and would not have ordered this if I had known that onion was on it. I did not eat this and informed the staff of this, I instead ordered the arrabbiata pasta which the staff accommodated to. The pasta arrived with a hair underneath the top layer of the pasta, i again informed the staff of this and they were very apologetic and took the pasta and one cocktail off the bill for our inconvenience. The owner came over demanding that the hair in the pasta was mine and held it up against my head invading my personal space and making me feel incredibly threatened and demanded I go upstairs to the kitchen to see the length of the chefs hair. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they want to feel unwelcome and threatened. I would not even give this place 1 star
Update: reply to the owners response.
I had one bite of the pizza and then realised there were onions underneath the cheese and I did not continue to eat it as I stated I have a food intolerance. I had no problem with this other than I would have liked for the menu to have stated what the ingredients were. Your staff were very understanding and agreed with me on this. One staff member was extremely apologetic and removed a cocktail from our bill without me expecting or asking them to do so. I again had one bite of pasta which is when I noticed the long hair underneath it, my hair is not blonde so it could not be mine as the owner stated and there is no way for my hair to have gotten into the bottom of the pasta. I again never stated that I was not going to pay but did expect this as I think any customer would when they are served a dish with a hair in it, the staff again were very helpful, apologetic and embarrassed of this. There was no kindness on the owners behalf only violent and threatening tones were used which caused other customers to ask if I was okay numerous times. I had read reviews regarding the owners attitude being appalling and could not agree with these statements more. Tourists beware of this restaurant and...
Read moreGerman restaurant caters mostly to Western tourists in Halong. Schweinshaxe is so BIG for 2-3 persons, taste is just ok by European standard.
Response to owner's "response" of "I think you never eat before a German correct pork knuckle ":
It is pretty ignorant for you to say that. On the contrary, I have had Schweinshaxe in Germany, as well as in many European cities like Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Vilnius, etc., not to mention in the US, and of course, in Taiwan. So I do have SOME idea of the difference from country to country or from chef to chef, and what a good Schweinshaxe tastes like. Since you raised doubt, I am forced to tell you that the one I had at Papa's was a bit too tough, both the skin and especially on the inside. It is true, and I have had better, many times. Unless you want to tell me that is what a Schweinshaxe should taste like and all the Schweinshaxe I have had before all over the world were all "incorrect", including the one in Frankfurt which was the best Schweinshaxe I ever had (crispy skin and tender inside)? I would beg to differ, and I think my German friends would, too. Note that I did not say yours were "bad", just not the best I ever had. Could you at least try to be a little open-minded about that? I do appreciate your hospitality to help me cut it, hence the 4 stars. Accept it with grace, or should I change it to 3 stars for your impolite and offensive response? Not being perfect in life is a blessing. Strive for perfection, but not to be obsessed by the quest. Have a good New Year.
Response to 2nd owner's response (2024/10/16): I appreciate your second response, which is more courteous and more respectful than your first offensive response which you deleted. May I remind you that I have read all the positive comments you listed (and more), and that was the reason I visited your restaurant with high expectation. Just feel a little disappointed, in my opinion. Keep an open mind!...
Read moreOne of the busier restaurants we came across during the off season and saw the positive reviews on Google. Mostly foreign/western tourists and western tour groups were dining here.
Food was edible but a bit on the salty side. The giant prawn dish was actually normal sized shrimps in tomato sauce. Fried fish was crispy and a large portion but batter was a bit too salty for my taste.
Due to some miscommunication, one dish we ordered was missed and we were unintentionally given an order of bruschetta.
There was a 5% service charge that was very surprising and not warranted given that no particular extra service was provided and we weren't a large group (only 2 people).
This place is okay if you need a break from Vietnamese food.
Update in response to restaurant owner's reply: we sat at your restaurant for two hours because we were waiting for our prawn dish that we initially ordered, in addition to our eating time. Had we received it with our initial serving of food, we would have left earlier. Even so, there were plenty of empty tables and we didn't see any notice of maximum seating time. We did not order our food three times, we ordered only once, at the outset of the meal. After finishing our initial serving of food and not yet receiving the prawn dish, we clarified with the staff about our order - we did not "no longer know what you [we] have ordered." What likely happened was a miscommunication - I made a comment on bread being included with the prawn dish and the server may have misinterpreted this as an order for bruschetta. We received the bruschetta and erroneously assumed that it was the bread that comes with the prawn. Your other comments are...
