I apologize for this long review. I've been eyeing this restaurant for over a month, since the food looked fresh in all the pictures. I ordered the staple pork chop with all the fixings/sides, and the waitress recommended the pork jowl, so I got that as well I wanted to get an overall assessment. Also got their special recommended tea.
Ambience: very chill, cool interior design, I love that they have AC, comfortable seats, young staff, well lit, clean.
Service: not bad, definitely not great, typical vietnamese service. Food was delivered to me, I wasn't checked up on, no small talk really or introduction to any promitions. was given a soup with my com tam, I wish that soup was delivered to me when I just got in from the rain after ordering my food.
Food: The rice was piping hot which I liked, and the pork fat crunchy things are always good. The bi seems like it was homemade, as was the cha. The bi was a bit too spongey for me, the cha had some pasty-ness to it, that I didn't enjoy much. The pork chop was pretty good, but could have benefited from having a bit more pork fat, everyone has their own preference though. I love pork jowl, and cook it at home as a guilty pleasure. I was hoping to be blown away, but was a bit disappointed. It was cooked well, but I felt like it had no seasoning, I think it could have benefited from a little salt and pepper, garlic powder, possibly a little brush of honey. The tea was not sweet, and was okay.
I like this place, but I really wanted to love this place.Cooking the protein to order is something I really like, I'm patient, I think food tastes best when it's hot, I can't stand places that will serve me a pork chop that's been sitting there for an hour+ in a cart window with the fat coagulating. Price wise, It was a little expensive cause of the jowl. If I come back, I'll skip the jowl and try...
Read moreOkay, let's be honest here and please note that this is only personal review, it's only true to me, not to others. I come to this restaurant for the first time, and I ordered the signature meal to see how good it is.
Firstly, about the quality, the pork is at its finest and well-served, while the others are quite good, but not distinctly good when compared to others. The only problem is the extra rice, somehow it is not as good (soft) as the main dish. Secondly, the service is warm and cute, and I actually like that. It does create a comfortable atmosphere. Just one suggestion is that the staffs shouldn't say "Hello" simultaneously when customers come in as that action doesn't fit the style and layout of the restaurant. That action makes the restaurant become cheap as that action is only used in fast food (KFC, lottery,...) or milktea shop. Thirdly, only one thing I don't feel like I want to come back, which is the price. Living as an investor makes me always think about value per coin paid, and from this perspective, it is overpriced. Let's say, the extraordinarily good pork is the only thing make the dish differ from other street food, it still doesn't worth that much, and the extra rice doesn't leave me good experience either. Not to mention, with the same amount, I can enjoy a much better meal (not rice).
To sum up, I believe everything is good, except for the price. I thought I would rate 3 star, but add 1 star as the restaurant only opens for 2 weeks. I do hope it...
Not worth the price, the shredded pork skin was exceptionally bad. I ordered two dishes: the "Dinosaur" rice (cơm khủng long) and the pork neck rice with shredded skin, meatloaf, and a fried egg (cơm nạc nọng bì chả ốp la). Here is my experience: Portion: The amount of meat was quite small considering the high price of the dish. The rice portion was generous, and they used good quality rice. Taste: The marinated ribs were unremarkable. The meatloaf was average. The fish sauce was good and well-balanced. The worst part was the shredded pork skin (bì); it was honestly the worst I have ever had in my life. It lacked the typical toasted rice powder aroma and had a strange, slightly sweet and sour taste. Ambiance & Hygiene: The restaurant itself is spacious and clean. However, there is a major food safety concern: the ribs are grilled on the sidewalk right in front of the restaurant. This is a major street with constant traffic, so dust and pollutants undoubtedly settle on the meat. A clean restaurant doesn't mean much if the most critical cooking process isn't hygienic. Service: The wait time was very long. Even though I was the only customer when I arrived, I had to wait nearly 20 minutes for my food because they only start grilling the ribs after an order is placed.
Conclusion: Overall, the flavor of the meal was nothing special that would make me want to come back, especially given the excessively high price. Based on this experience, I will not...
