Qúan Song Ngà Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm Hà Nội — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

I haven't had as much bún chả (rice noodles wirh meatballs) as I probably should. I only noticed the đặc biệt (special ver.) here after ordering... I will have to go back to try it at some point.

I'm not certain what the hours are, I've seen it closed when I thought it'd be open. If you find it open, it's limited seating and pretty popular. I saw a lot of shared, large trays/platters.

The broth wasn't cold, but it wasn't hot. The meat was slightly warm; I wish it had been steaming hot... either way, the meatballs (here, "meat medallions") were very good. If I had a plate of those with some rice and kimchi, I'd be set.

The meatballs were mixed with grilled pork, which was standard, but I wish it would have just been meatballs. The broth had a good proportion of vinnegar - it wasn't too vinegary. I kind of thought it tasted like lightly pickled cucumbers, but I think it was just vinegar.

[Update Dec 28] Returned to try the meatballs special ver. I was with a friend but we were the only customers at the time (around 1:30 pm); clearly not a popular time. He ordered the regular noodles and meatballs (what I had previously), and I ordered the special ver for 65K ($2.70). Even though we were the only ones, they were quite slow, which is weird considering the food wasn't fresh, they just had to put it together - it was cold (more cold than I remember from before).

The only difference between the regular and the special is LITERALLY, one spring roll. That spring roll was hot, and it tasted awesome... yet it's not worth 15K more than the regular for just the single roll. The taste of the meatballs (medallions) were not fresh tasting, like the other meat this time, it had been made a while ago (probably early in the morning or perhaps it was in the refrigerator from the night before). The broth didn't taste quite as good.

Had I tried this the first time, I would have never recommended it nor come back. My...

The sauce is excellent. I really enjoyed my meal as well as yhe ice tea. I recommend the place.

Negs : I didn't have enough sauce and I had to finish 1/4th of the food without any. I didn't have the courage to go find a waitress as they stayed in the main building. It would be more convenient to have the leafs served separately. No soap in the bathroom 🫠 A lot of flies everywhere. The place needs a deep cleaning in the kitchen area or something needs to be done to solve...

Mình vào Sài Gòn cũng hơn 10năm, quán thì đã có từ trước đó. Đây có lẽ là quán ngon nhất mình từng ăn ở Sài Gòn, mình cũng từng ăn thử rất nhiều quán ( khoảng trên 20 quán ) nhưng vẫn chưa chỗ nào ăn ngon hơn. Mỗi lần bạn bè hay ai rủ đi ăn bún đậu là mình lại rủ qua đây. Ăn từ lúc 1 mình đến lúc có vợ, giờ sắp có con vẫn muốn ăn ở chỗ này. Bún đậu thì quan trọng nhất là mắm tôm và mắm tôm ở đây thì khỏi phải nói, ngoài ra còn có dồi trường cũng xuất sắc. Ai chưa ăn ở đây thì nhất định phải thử 1 lần không thì...
