I rarely leave a review but feel so disappointed with this place after reading rave reviews that I had to write this to ensure others have a better experience. I'm no food expert as everyone has different opinions and expectations but I am a real foodie and have 2 food businesses back in the UK. Food was shockingly bad and only when asking them at the end why our duck main course was smoked and looked sad compared to pictures we saw online, did she mention you had the FOREIGNER menu not the vietnamese menu!! My wife is Vietnamese. I've been living here over 3 years. Why on earth would you not give us the vietnamese menu or at least tell us that there was one!!!
Came for dinner with my wife and we were given the burger/pizza menu and the menu which was written in only English and French. Menu sounded pretty good and was looking forward to the food. Unfortunately 2 dishes we ordered were out of stock so had to keep changing our order. In the end had the local duck (vit co lung) with ginger and honey along with the chicken and passion fruit sauce. Main dishes came out first, slowly followed by the mashed potato and still no bread. Bread arrived once we were half way through the mains. What's the point of ordering it in the first place. Food was probably some of THE WORST FOOD I'VE EATEN IN VIETNAM during my 3 years of living here. Duck was smoked so overpowered everything. No sign of the ginger and honey sauce, just a load of oil at the bottom of the plate with a little honey somewhere. Oily and super thin... you can not call that a sauce!! Plus zero flavour. Whole dish just tasted like cheap smoked duck. Chicken was so dry and literally no seasoning at all. Passionfruit sauce... again, was not a sauce. Absolutely no flavour in this dish it was mind boggling. Both main courses came out with exactly the same sad pointless garnish. Few bits of onion, raw green paper and some spring onion. All added nothing to the plate of food. Waiter came out and attempted to tell us what the food was everytime he brought out a plate but seemed to be struggling. My wife ended up having to tell him what it was each time, was a little awkward.
2 underwhelming mains, some mashed potato and a few crunchy spring roles set us back 790k (okay... a few saigons chucked in too). We have had twice the amount of food for 2 thirds of that price which was 10 times better regarding quality/flavour in so many other places in Pu Luong over the last 4 days. When asking them why on earth did you give us the foreigner menu they couldn't answer us.
Thoroughly disappointed. It's as if they serve real food on the vietnamese menu but think they can get away with seving anything on the foreigner menu for a massive mark up cause foreigners are too silly to understand what a proper plate of food is (in their eyes anyway).
If you like you flavours and food cooked properly then please choose one of the many other restaurants in the Pu Luong area. If you end up coming here anyway because I'm the only person who's given a bad review then make sure you ask for the Vietnamese menu!! Get Google translate out and take a photo of the menu. Do not order from the foreigner menu if you like and...
Read morewe had a great time at La Fumee during our trip to Pu Luong. The restaurant is beautifully designed with a lovely ambiance, and offers peaceful and serene views of the surrounding landscape. However, the highlight of our experience was definitely the food - the dishes were absolutely delicious, featuring fresh ingredients and unique local flavors. We both especially enjoyed the buffalo steak. The staff were also very nice, friendly, and professional, which added to the overall experience. Will definitely be going...
