As a tourist visiting Hanover, I was delighted to discover the beautiful and historic Aegidienkirche. From the moment I set foot inside the church, I was struck by its beauty and significance. One of the things that I loved most about Aegidienkirche was its beautiful architecture. The Romanesque tower and Gothic nave are truly stunning, and the frescoes and stained glass windows add a touch of beauty and color to the interior of the church. The church is also home to a number of important works of art, including statues and paintings, which add to its beauty and significance. But Aegidienkirche is more than just a beautiful building - it is also a vibrant and active place. It is a Catholic church that is used for regular worship services, and it is also a popular destination for events and concerts. The guided tours of the church are a great way to learn more about its history and architecture, and the friendly staff are more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Overall, I had a wonderful time visiting Aegidienkirche, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Hanover. It is a beautiful and historic church that is rich in history and culture, and it is a true gem in the heart of the city. Don't miss out on the opportunity to explore this amazing landmark.

A great reminder of the horrors of war and why peace should be treasured. I get shivers down my spine every time I enter the Aegidienkirche. With its partnership with Hiroshima it is such a powerful place and you can really feel the horror and sorrow of the people that lived during these horrible times in Germany, Japan, and everywhere else where WWII was fought. I hope we never forget the innocent lives that were lost. The Aegidienkirche is a piece of living history which reminds us to never repeat the devastating mistakes that were made during WWII (on all sides). In war there are no winners and no heroes; there are only loser and those who needlessly died defending a flawed ideology.

Several cities in northern Germany (Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover,...) have such Churches left in the state they were in 1945. Purpose is to remind people on war devastations never to happen again. Aegidienkirche is set in the very center and there used to be a Church here from 12 century onwards which was several times rebuilt over centuries. Intense allied bombing 1943-45 left the Tower standing but the Church roofless. Beneath the bell tower you can find a bell from Hiroshima as a present from Japanese government

Aegidienkirche in Hannover – the church ruins are a reminder of the destruction in World War II. I passed by it often by car but never noticed this calm and quiet spot in the city center. Today, walking by, I was drawn to step in. With its high walls and no roof, this former church still offers a peaceful space to pause and reflect, right next to the city’s busy streets. A simple, peaceful experience. Go and see the entrance is free; I’m sure you will agree.

Aegidienkirche is a war memorial in Hanover, Germany. It dates from 1347 and was destroyed on October 8, 1943 by the bombardment of Hanover during World War II. Aegidienkirche is now a war memorial dedicated to victims of war. Hiroshima, which is the Sister City of Hanover donated what is known as the Peace Bell. It is located close to the tower and is used in the annual service on Hiroshima Day.

Description
Aegidien Church, after Saint Giles to whom the church was dedicated, is a war memorial in Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony, Germany. The church dates from 1347, when it replaced an older Romanesque church dating to 1163. This in turn replaced an even earlier chapel.
