Caldea Spa — Attraction in Escaldes-Engordany

I am writing to detail a severe and traumatic incident of racial profiling and discrimination that my girlfriend and I experienced at Caldea on August 27, 2025

We purchased the 3-hour Classic Package. For the first 2.5 hours, we enjoyed the facilities without a single issue. We interacted with multiple employees who asked no questions about her attire.

With just 30 minutes left, as we entered the outdoor pool (which we had already visited), a female employee stopped us. She singularly targeted my girlfriend, declaring her top was against policy and that we must purchase a new one. We explained that no other employee had an issue for the prior 2.5 hours. She dismissed us and went to speak to her supervisor.

In the meantime, we proceeded into the pool. The employee returned and called us out of the water. She stated her supervisor's decision: we must buy a new top or leave immediately. We protested that we had only 20 minutes left and that this was clearly selective enforcement (we had seen other guests in similar tops). At this point, my girlfriend became overwhelmed, stated she felt this was discrimination, and left for the locker room in distress.

I confronted the employee, stating that her actions were racist and targeted. Her manager arrived and immediately took her side, assuring me his colleague "was not racist." I began filming the manager to hold him accountable, at which point he freaked out and demanded I delete the video. The situation was then drastically escalated.

I was met by security and approximately five other employees. They surrounded us, unanimously invalidating our experience, 5 white Europeans telling a black woman what racism is. Insisting "this is not racism" and "why is everything about race?" They also demanded I delete the video (I had not actually recorded anything, which I proved to them).

After finally being told we could leave, we were again blocked at the turnstile and then by a security guard who would not let us leave and gave us no explanation. He prevented us from moving and kept us illegally detained, in front of other customers. It was humiliating. After a 15-minute wait, we were shocked to see two police officers arrive. The management called the police on us. We had committed no crime. We simply challenged their discrimination, and were retaliated against for it.

As a Black woman, my girlfriend was rightfully terrified. Luckily the police officers were sympathetic and confused as to why they had been called, confirming we had done nothing illegal and we were free to leave.

To be clear: we were singled out, subjected to discriminatory treatment, surrounded by staff, falsely imprisoned, intimidated and then had the police weaponized against us for daring to complain. We were robbed of the experience we paid for and subjected to profound emotional distress.

This is an unacceptable and dangerous environment for people of color. We urge management to implement serious racial sensitivity training. We will be filing formal complaints with the Andorran Ombudsman.

This was for me the worst spa/pool I could have imagined. The entrace is nice and it looks like you are going to a place with class and quality. (which is not the case). We entered at 20:00 on a saturday this month.

The entire location has no isolation what so ever. Meaning, it was cold everywhere! Moving from pool to pool, or to any place was the worst as it was just so incredibly cold once outside a pool. Basically surviving the entire time.

The 'spectacle' of the night was something to laugh about. Just a couple of lights flickering every few minutes and some fountains were turned on, spraying cold water. Also the big screen was just showing advertisements the entire time, instead of using it to create more ambiance.

The main pool, well it is bascially a pool of around 27-28 degrees, which is just a pool.. The surroundings were quite basic, not a lot of decorations, no theme or any concept. Hardly any plants or something. Very basic and cost affordable. The outside part is quite ok with a decent view but small ( with so many people). Still, all still feels like im visiting the place to swim at a swimming pool and nothing more.

There are a few jaguzzi's and there its a hot bat of 36-37degrees but all very small, crowded and lots of noise. Not relaxing at all. There is a sauna, which is great, but its just a simple small cheap sauna full of people.

Also there are some other 'attractions' like water back massage, cold pool, and some others. But very small and it feels all more like one big attraction park.

The staff was ok and the reason. Igive more than 1 star. They are open, friendly and assist you immediately. However, also mostly students or very young people. Dont expect professionals or any class. Very similar staff like that of a typical pool.

In overall, its a very touristic and crowded place which feels like just a swimming pool with extra features on the side with a sauna, hot bad, cold bad, etc. There is no class, no overall concept and it certainly does not deliver what their overal messaging is in their marketing efforts. Fun to visit maybe 1hour for a swim, but don't expect any SPA feeling.
