El Refugi Alpí — Restaurant in Andorra la Vella

At every stage of our dining experience we had problems.

At first we went in at 4pm to make a reservation.. we reserved for 2 people she wrote 3, we asked for 8.30, she wrote 8.00. Okay let's just say it was a language barrier. No worries, then she drops the booking diary on the desk a little too hard and a little too passive aggressively, like what hah?

We arrive at 8.00 and tell them our booking, they dont even care, just tell us to sit anywhere Haha so we sit outside we are given some menus and after a little wait we ordered.

We order a pepperoni pizza, a goat cheese salad, and two beers, one large and one small. What we got was 2 pepperoni pizzas and 2 large beers. Hah. We changed for the salad and continue.

Food was okay, not great, but not bad.

After a looong time we order dessert, simply 3 scoops icecream, 1 tiramisu.

After maybe another 20mins the icecream arrives.. and the what do you know, its the flavour is wrong! haha At this point we dont care anymore we just want to leave.

Tiramisu never arrives. After 30mins of waiting I go to pay, I get the tiramisu removed off the bill and after over 1 hour and 40mins for just two mains and one desert our ordeal was over.

TLDR: Wrong time, wrong number of people, wrong drinks, wrong mains, wrong deserts, wrong bill. Haha WRONG...

We went here on Thursday evening. We had heard good things about it. We waited in a line in the cold outside for about 45 mins to get a table. It was odd because there were free tables inside but whatever. Online it says this place has vegetarian options. This is not really the case unless a plain salad floats your boat. The waiter came and I found him very rude and flippant. I asked him about vegetarian options and then about if I could have an individual cheese fondu. They only serve this to a minimum of two people ordering. When I said there were not really any other veggie options he just shrugged. There is nothing ruder than a shrug and shows the person really doesn't care. In other restaurants staff suggest other dishes or dishes where they can offer the meat dish without the meat or whatever, but just to shrug. I ended up ordering a 2 person fondu for 40 euros even though It was only for me. Thus the meal became v. expensive and altho the fondu itself was tasty the service was poor and you can expect way more for the money. I deduce that this place is overrated and wouldn't...

First, let this review stand only as a critique of service standards, not the food. The food itself was wonderful. The service was abysmal.

After about ten minutes seated with only our menus,waiter, Javier, took our order promptly and repeated it correctly. We did not see Javier again during the meal service. The wine and water we ordered never showed up. We implored a busboy to bring water after our main course arrived, (waiting to see if perhaps Javier was coming to check on us or being the drinks.) The bread basket for our fondue contained a bottle cap mixed in with the bread cubes. After our table had been cleared, we declined coffee or dessert, and we sat for another fifteen minutes at an empty table, we had to flag down a different waiter to request a bill. Our wine, which we did not receive as offered, was included on this bill. Javier returned to us with a corrected bill, but no questions about the wine or apologies for its omission.

A delicious meal, but one which has left a bad taste...
