A stadium steeped in history and my favourite club in Argentina. This is where it all began for the greatest player to ever play the sport. The spirit of Diego is very much alive here. A very tight knit community (La Paternal) based club, but genuinely welcoming to outsiders. As I was wearing a Liverpool shirt, they really took to me because of Alexis MacAllister. I even met the president of the club, and also the last surviving fan who made the trip to Japan to watch them in their only World Cup Final appearance in 1985. We got a very personal tour of the facilities, museum and pitch. Our guide Lucas was a cool guy and very knowledgeable. The club has the longest record in the world of having a product of their famed academy present in the starting XI matchday team. Aside from Maradona, some serious legendary players have graced this pitch for the Reds, such as Borghi, Riquelme, Redondo, Batista, Fillol, and Cambiasso. Argentinos Juniors have also an impressive collection of international World Cup winners. Anyone who visits Buenos Aires and wants to get an intimate football experience, should check out this friendly and passionate club. I keep returning here on my annual trip to Argentina. I am now hooked, and look out for their...

We asked for a moment to take a good photo, but they told us they did not have time. The museum only included a couple of original items. This could be so good: Maradona stadium and Messi's first match for Argentina. But they were so focused on earning quick money. The murals on all sides around the stadium are possible to enjoy for free. They are really awesome. So give yourself the chance to go to the stadium and enjoy all the beautiful murals - but don't buy a...
Read moreThis estadio keeps the original flavor of a neighborhood club and team. Members care for the field tenderly. There is also a Museum, nicknamed the Temple of Soccer. Not only you see mementos of more than 100 years history, but also from early days of Maradona. Many famous players were spotted and coached from this club, to many local and foreign leagues. As a matter of fact, my late father-in-law was the greatest goal kicker of all time for the club and he scored 142 goals in 167 matches, a record still unparalleled! Hector José Ingunza, nicknamed “Mono”...
