What an amazing place, the museum is AWESOME go look, there’s a five dollar fee each to go in and it’s worth that and more, it puts other much larger more expensive museums to shame frankly and I’ve been in quite a few over the years.
We initially went down the wrong road off the roundabout past Bunnings and found a dead end turned back and then located it so glad we did. Photos are allowed to be taken in the museum but not in the shop.
Museum features in carefully organised sections collections on Australian war history as well of that of American and European along a section on the ancient people of Australia. There’s short informative cards alongside the various displays, I loved how the displays were done and there’s so much to look at, lots of model planes and boats too plus weaponry, the displays are not interactive so if you’re with young children ensure they are supervised don’t touch things. My husband and I love wartime history, especially WW2 as Guernsey was occupied by the Germans and we don’t need interactive exhibits to become immersed in reading about war history.
The owner was very passionate about his work and the museum and rightly so and we had a nice chat about carpentry and war memorabilia. His wife who was on the front desk explained he had designed all the displays and I was so impressed with the quality and detailing, I’m not sure I can decide which was my favourite thing but I loved looking at the various uniforms and the section on Gallipoli was especially sad and poignant when you see that famous picture of them sitting on the great pyramid and realise so very few came back. It’s tragic and heart rending.
There’s a large wood gallery to start with featuring some beautiful carved statement pieces along with smaller items such as vases, pen pots etc and the museum is through two doors at the back of the room, it’s air conditioned. I bought a small wooden vase and the owner said when we were leaving he had produced this item over thirty years ago when he decided to try his hand at wood turning and it was the first thing he produced in class. It’s now on it’s way back to Guernsey in the...
Read moreA post on Facebook directed me to this excellent fine timber product outlet and its connected wonderful little museum. If you are interested in history, firearms, or just want to view the work of a master of creating in wood, you'll be wowed by all that Featured Wood Gallery & Museum has to offer. We were lucky and had the place to ourselves, and the master himself to show us around. And as I have an interest in the US Old West, military history and firearms in general, I was captivated, and with my wife, spent quite a while absorbing it all. The small wooden cannon is amazing, just like the real thing. Another feature is the collection of fine aircraft models. If you are passing through Australind and don't make the time to find and absorb this great little attraction, you're...
Read moreI've ben passing through Australind not until recently when I explored the little town. I was very impressed and would love to visit again. The museum is one spot to visit if you dont want to miss out on the beauties within the town. Managed by some very nice and friendly bloke called John and his son( 4th and 5th generation of a family owned outfit). He's done an amazing job collecting war memorabilias, arts n crafts, historical figures, equipment etc into the building and ensuring the sustainability of history. I'll recommend this place anytime for someone who appreciates history ( who shouldn't anyway). Great job John and thank you...
