Top most entry point of the park’s cave tours of the ~3km system. Parks have daily tours of the caves and the guides are well versed. - Remember: Never touch limestone cave formations. As tempting as it is, it will stop there growth, which is excruciatingly slow! Breathtaking chambers of calcium carbonate formations with exquisite examples of stalagmites, stalactites, columns and flowstones, even a helictite in the shape of a scorpion’s take! There is also a chamber containing clear water pools. This tour also contains a stone tunnel and is not recommended for people that struggle with tight spaces or cannot bend over and duck walk for some distance. The path is lit as you go and has a hand rail throughout. OK for kids, but needs a parent present so they don’t touch the cave walls.

FAIRY CAVE HIGHLIGHTS What I loved most about the Fairy Caves was the feeling of exploration! There were lots of sections that required ducking down and moving through narrow walkways. This is something to consider if you are not very nimble! The Fairy Cave also has more steps than the Royal Cave. You have to lower your head to avoid collision with rocks. So beautiful place must not leave the tour guide. It’s always 17 degrees Celsius inside the cave during all the year. I visited this place two times. First time we on day one tickets were sold out then we booked tickets for next day. Holiday seasons are very busy here. It’s good experience inside the caves.

Our tour guide was the best! She told us so many fun facts and really put the caves into perspective. It was cool to learn about the history of the cave and its discovery. The damage done by other tourists and people in the past is sad, but the Fairy Cave is still beautiful. I definitely recommend going as it's a great experience for the price. If you do go, make sure to read the information as no backpacks are allowed inside. Food and drinks (other than water) also aren't allowed. The walk was more difficult than the Royal Cave, and the humidity made it a little hard to breathe for me.

Discover an underground wonderland of spectacular limestone formations at Gippsland's ancient Buchan Caves. Underground rivers cutting through limestone rock created the caves almost 400 million years ago.

Cave tours Professionally guided tours of either Royal Cave or Fairy Cave operate daily. Both caves are lit and have walkways. Royal Cave has calcite-rimmed pools, and in Fairy Cave you will see elaborate stalactites and stalagmites. Tours to 'wild' unlit caves can also be arranged for small groups. The caves are a constant 17 degrees Celsius making the tour a comfortable temperature all year round. Find out about cave tour times and prices at the Parks Victoria website.

Camping and bushwalking Buchan Caves Reserve is a unique getaway adjoining the stunning caves system. Access to short and long walks in the surrounding bushland and the nearby Snowy River National Park make it an ideal base for a nature based camping holiday. See the abundant native wildlife, which includes kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, and over 60 species of birds.

Wilderness retreats With scenic picnic spots, a stream-feed pool and hundreds of shady trees, the reserve is the perfect place to pitch a tent on one of 100 grassy campsites. Self-contained cabins are also available. For something a little more unique, try the Buchan Caves Reserve's Wilderness Retreats. These safari-style tents allow you to immerse yourself in natural surroundings without sacrificing your creature comforts.

We did the fairy cave tour. Well worth the trip and loved the caves. Be on time! Plus side our guide Pete was quite informative and gave a lot of info regarding the caves discovery and their history. The stairs and walk through the cave were nowhere near as bad as it looked on paper. Was quite an easy walk up and down into the cave. Downside is we felt rushed through the whole time. One comment from the guide came off rude when he advised us, "It is not the time for a family photo shoot. "... all we did was ask another couple to take 1x photo of our family all together at a stop point in the cave. The guide also seemed to get annoyed at young children making noise. Maybe he just had a bad day but it would have been nice to get a little more time to take a decent family photo given its not something you see every day. Other than that, we did enjoy ourselves, and the surrounding area outside the caves is...

Our experience was nothing short of appalling. The tour was a complete disaster from start to finish. The guide's behavior was shockingly unprofessional and borderline abusive—he repeatedly threatened to call the police to remove guests simply for walking or taking photos. He insulted participants, calling people "stupid," and shockingly singled out an Asian gentleman, asking him to tell his “people” to be quiet, while accusing him of giving “selective translation” to his group. The level of disrespect and racial insensitivity was outrageous and unacceptable.

To make matters worse, the tour was rushed through with no regard for those who wanted to take photos—even on safe, flat paths. We were herded through the caves like a nuisance rather than welcomed guests. The entire experience was hostile, chaotic, and left us deeply disappointed and disturbed. Absolutely would...
