I came here two years ago and have just gone back there today and i have to say... What an amazing transformation! I am a big fan of vodka and gin, flown all the way over from the UK and Old Youngs has to be THE BEST vodka and gin i have EVER tasted! To do some tasting it costs $5 per person but i have to say it was worth every dollar and even if it cost more than that i wouldnt have moaned! The owner was the man who presented the drinks to us and told us a story about all of the different flavours and their reasons behind them, he showed us how each drink is made and why he loves it so much. I felt like i was being given a tour in Willy Wonka's vodka and gin factory! I dont think i have ever met someone so passionate about their job before than this man! (I wish i could remember his name!) the interrior design is beautiful with its own modern, trendy twist. The greatest flavour for me was the eccentric Pavlova flavoured vodka and their unique gin... (I ended up buying both bottles and for a really good price, considering the quality of the alcohol, the refreshing bursts of flavour and the gorgeous bottles which they come in!) One drink which surprised me and i am still in awe over, was the trippy Smoked Vodka (added with cloudy apple... Tasted like a hog roast! ) The whole experience was amazing and even if you dont buy any drinks afterwards, for $5 you get to meet the kindest and most genuine man ever, who really has a passion for his job and the people who have helped him build his business up. I wish i caught your name Mr Old Youngs! Amazing experience, if i could rate it higher i would... Would definately reccomend this if you are going on a wine tour through the Margaret River. My favourite place by far. I wish you all the luck for the future of your company and i hope you make it big in england!!! i will defo be...
Read moreMust-do stop on a Swan Valley Tasting tour - we had a group of 40 and the team bent over backwards in the lead-up to accommodate a group of our size.
The tasting experience was incredibly entertaining - I could have listened to CJ all day - as well as informative, not just on the spirits themselves, but the local area and history, how spirits came to be and the why behind Old Youngs existing in the first place.
CJ exuded the company ethos, and her energy, passion and take no shit, give no shit dirty sailor personality has clearly been weaved into the tapestry of the company and product. You could listen to her for 3 days straight and still not want to leave. On top of all that - the product was amazing! Im familiar with the bottom of quite a few bottles of spirits in my time - many high end, but most not - and I had no idea gin and vodka could taste the way they did or a smooth as they did.
Old Youngs was our first stop on the tour so it wasn't even like I was sozzled and viewing our visit through rose (heart) coloured glasses??! Either way, Old Youngs bewitched me body and soul and you simply must must MUST include a stop to the distillery next time you're in the Valley. Even if you only exclusively drink wine like I do, because I guarantee you'll...
