An honest to goodness submarine sitting in a park in a rural country town park. Imagine your surprise if you were detouring through Holbrook with no idea this thing existed and seeing a great big 90 metre long Oberon class submarine sitting in a park. It was installed in 1995 as a tourist attraction and to cement Holbook's link to a submarining past. You'll have to visit the the museum on site for more details on this rich history. Don't go to HolbrookSubmarineMusuem dot com though, because that weirdly goes to a spam website holder page - in Hebrew. But I can tell you they sailed the HMAS Otway up the Murray River to Albury where it was broken up and transported overland to Holbrook. With drought and climate change it is no longer possible to sail submarines up to Holbrook on any of the creeks nearby (or on the Murray for that matter). Interestingly the town couldn't afford to buy the whole submarine from the Navy but they got the best bit - the top. Who sells half a submarine anyway? I wonder what the navy did with the bottom bit. Shame Aus Navy shame. Stop by the sub and enjoy the park and the museum when you drive...

I had an incredible experience at the Holbrook Submarine Museum! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making my visit even more enjoyable. The museum itself is full of fascinating exhibits that provide a great insight into the history of submarines and naval exploration. One of the highlights was a cool hologram video that offered a unique and immersive experience.

The room with the realistic gauges and periscope was also a standout, offering a chance to experience what it might feel like to be inside a real submarine. The attention to detail in that area was impressive.

The real HMAS Otway submarine, which is on display outside, is an absolute must-see. You can actually stand on it, which gives you a deeper appreciation for the scale and design of these incredible machines. It's not every day you get to step on an actual submarine!

Overall, the Holbrook Submarine Museum is well worth a visit. It's informative, interactive, and offers a fantastic experience for anyone interested in naval history or submarines. I highly recommend it to anyone passing...

The HMAS Otway is a retired Royal Australian Navy submarine that has been preserved and turned into a museum. The moment I stepped on board, I was transported back in time to the era of submariners. The knowledgeable and friendly staff provided a fascinating guided tour, sharing stories about the submarine's history, operations, and the daily life of the crew.

One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the different sections of the submarine. From the torpedo room to the control room, I was amazed by the level of detail and authenticity.

The museum also offers unique opportunities, such as the chance to sleep overnight on the submarine for a truly immersive experience but not really for me.

The HMAS Otway also has a gift shop with a wide range of memorabilia and souvenirs.

The town of Holbrook itself is also a charming and welcoming destination. The museum is conveniently located within walking distance of other attractions and amenities, and the local community takes great pride in preserving the naval history...

The scene captures the striking presence of the submarine HMAS Otway, permanently stationed on the lush green grass of the Holbrook Submarine Museum in Holbrook, New South Wales. The sleek, dark hull of the submarine provides a powerful contrast against the vibrant green of the well-maintained lawn. Above, a vast expanse of a brilliant blue sky is dotted with fluffy white cumulus clouds, creating a dynamic and picturesque backdrop. The sunlight casts shadows across the grass, adding depth and dimension to the landscape. Scattered around the submarine are a few people, their small figures emphasizing the sheer size of the vessel. Mature trees with their autumn foliage add a touch of warmth and natural beauty to the surroundings. In the distance, hints of the town and other structures can be seen under the expansive sky. The overall impression is one of a unique and intriguing display, where a piece of naval history is presented in a peaceful and open setting, inviting contemplation under the beautiful Australian sky.
