I dont mind paying good money for good food. This is why, for the last 8 months I have always preferred to dine at this establishment over others in Holbrook. Tonight, new years eve, was a massive disappointment. It wasn't busy at all and they were massively over staffed. So much so that the young staff had time to stand around talking to friends while people stood around waiting to be served. For the exorbitant prices that you pay to eat here, seeing this was a huge disappointment. The menu was limited, also very disappointing and our meals were definitely not what we had experienced in the past. The steak, cooked medium was tough and the lamb looked amazing, beautifully seared on the outside and looked perfect on the inside but also tough. I ordered a cake for desert. After waiting about 20 minutes I asked if I could have it to take away. The lovely lady that served me told me it was being prepared right now and would be about 3 minutes. I saw her talking to the person preparing my desert who then walked away from preparing my desert to wander around the kitchen aimlessly checking ingredients that didn't actually need attention. After watching this for about 5 minutes I asked for a refund to be told that my money would be refunded after reconciliation at the end of the night. Not good enough. I work in hospitality and know that money can be refunded immediately. Very very disappointed Holbrook hotel and very much doubt I'll be back. I could have cooked a better meal at home for 1/4...
Read moreVery sad… I live in Sydney and I used to stop here for lunch on my way to Melbourne. I haven’t been here for maybe 3 yrs and things have changed not in the right direction. When I walked in I realised the reno defo different from the old pub it use to be. Now looks one of the 1000 freshly renovated pubs in Sydney. Fair enough… I drove 500ks with black angus all around me… I couldn’t care less of a new furniture I just wanted that juicy flavourful steak I always get.. either a rump or a scotch fillet with chips’n salad boom! Don’t need anything else!
Look at the menu.. no rump.. oh well rare scotchy will do me today. there was something written about the side but I couldn’t care less sure a steak comes with chips’n salad… the girl at the counter(very kind) she didn t ask if I want chips and salad or mash’n veg which is unusual.. oh well I ran with it. my wife went for the porterhouse $40..
Steak arrived… chips were from macca’s very thin and very pale, steak didn’t look char e ough to be rare no salad. Didn’t look great. My chips were soft and they steak was mid at best it seems that was cooked from frozen didn’t taste of anything boring boring boring… very disappointed. My wife one was cooled better and a tad more quality although far away from 40$…
Only positive note is that they have beechworth pale ale.. that was at least nice and fresh
Sad…I am...
Read moreLast week we had lunch at the Holbrook Hotel after hearing from friends how nice it was when they had lunch there a few weeks ago. Whilst the ambience is lovely the lunch itself was a letdown. We were hoping for something above average considering the prices are not typical pub grub prices. Hubby was deciding what to order and noticed there was a television showcasing what you could get from the menu so he decided on the lamb. The offering was disappointing. What was received was pieces of lamb, roasted shoulder from the previous day/s I think, (not roasted that day anyway) not on the bone and not a hint of “pink” anywhere. It had also been reheated on a flat top grill. This opposite to the pictures being displayed on the television and on the website. If what’s being advertised on the screen isn’t indicative of what is on the menu, don’t show it. I ordered the Pork chop although it was cooked to order it was dry and tough. The “warm potato salad” turned out to be diced up left over baked potatoes. That is not warm potato salad it’s leftovers in disguise. Nothing wrong with leftovers, at home. Leftovers are leftovers anyway you look at it, lamb not cooked to order or at least on the same day and “warm potato salad”. The food is presented well and was nice but the fact remains that both dishes were leftovers apart...
