We were planning on lunch at the pub but the kitchen closed at 2:00pm and we rolled into town at 2:07pm. We were glad because our Plan B, Holbrook Bakery, turned out to be a fantastic find. The hot chips are crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The fish and salad was delicious with a very simple (and perfect for a road trip) salad comprising of fresh salad ingredients layer out with slices of crumbly tasty cheese. The others in the gang had fish burgers and veggie burgers and a curry pie. We couldn’t help but be tempted by the delicious famous vanilla slice as well as a caramel slice and an apple turnover. All crispy and delicious. Then my daughter took my husky to the park with the submarines and at the back made the foolish decision to let him off the leash for a free run. Almost immediately the husky spotted a huge male kangaroo and a right melee erupted that soon drew a small crowd of locals as my over ambitious husky risked being gutted by the claws of an angry kangaroo that towered over him. Luckily my husky who becomes deaf to all in these situations, is also fast and nimble. The melee continued as my husky darted in pursuit of the kangaroo towards a local industrial yard. One of the local guys tore after them in a 4WD Ute and tried to cut the chase. I ran into the yard to find the kangaroo backed up against a damn. After some more wild swinging and dodging and weaving the kangaroo waded into the damn to escape but the husky continued the pursuit and latched into the back of the kangaroos neck. Both too and husky went under the water several times before the husky swam back to shore and was finally recaptured and the road trip continues. This was a very dangerous situation for the dog and all concerned. Do not let your husky off the leash in i enclosed areas as it is almost impossible to train the prey instinct out of these intelligent but...

If I could give 0 stars I would I am appalled at the way I was treated while trying to heat up my newborns bottle, I asked the young girl at the counter if I could have a cup of boiling water to heat up the bottle she was completely fine went and grabbed the cup and came back and then said it was going to be $1.50 I asked why as I’ve never had this happen and as a paying customer i didn’t think it would be a massive thing then 2 other staff members behind me that were stocking the fridge asked me ā€œwhat’s the problemā€ I then explained how I didn’t think it was right to be charged $1.50 for some boiling water to feed my newborn and they said ā€œit costs us money to turn the taps onā€ I had then said I didn’t want the water as I knew the service station next door wouldn’t have a problem giving it for free and she then poured the water down the sink which was a waste anyway. I felt so disrespected in this moment as a young mother who travels quite a bit and is on many travelling Facebook pages I will be posting on how disgusted I was with the service, as it was also a public holiday and there were only 3 places open and only 2 of which could serve water I had then sat down with my family and ate the food I brought. They were closing at 3pm as opposed to other days obviously as it was a public holiday and at 2:40 I felt rushed out the door as they kept telling me they were closing I had left by 2:50 and as loading my children into the car I saw an older man trying to get in but they had locked the doors at 2:53 when they had advertised out the front closing at 3pm. I was spoken to with disrespect and I feel as if it’s hard enough going out feeding a new born but I manage quite well because everywhere I’ve ever been (I travel around Australia quite a bit) has always been very accommodating I’ve never had to really write a review but I was so shocked in the way I...

Rude young staff with attitude, that don't listen or have a hearing problem ! asked for two chunky steak pies and one caramel slice, staff member came back with the two pies and two slices, when l pointed out to her that l wanted one slice only, she rudely screwed up her face and scoffed at me , when we started eating the pies we noticed they were not very chunky for 'chunky'pies' , more like mince slop pies, when we pointed out that we had been given the wrong pies, staff member went to check in with other staff members who could be heard loudly complaining " what! they want to replace a half eaten pie! "staff member comes back and says we don't have any chunky pies, when l pointed out there was a sign saying chunky steak and that's what l asked for she responded with " Ohh Yeah we have chunky steak and pepper or plain beef pies," l replied " yes, that's what l asked for ,chunky STEAK " instead of apologising, she ignored me and walked off without another word. Thumbs down (finger up) to staff that have ZERO customer...

I had known we would be stopping in Holbrook for a quick bite in our long drive down to Melbourne and wanted to give our girls a treat for being so good. I'd come across Holbrook Bakery when having a glance through Maps the day before. The pies were amazing. In Sydney, I would expect to pay $15-20 for a real pie like this, but I paid $7.50 for my steak, cheese and bacon. I was just plain impressed - really good pies that didn't need fillers. I'd gotten tomato sauce but found I barely needed it since the pies already tasted really good. The coffee capped it off for me; I go through a fair bit of coffee in my average day, so I had to try theirs. I was glad I did. The setting was classic, and the staff were so nice too. They were very understanding with our hard decisions as to which pie we wantedšŸ™„šŸ˜†, and even a bit apologetic that I had to wait a few for my coffee...I could see they were really busy (for good reason), but they were so nice about it. Thank you to Holbrook Bakery. I am so glad we dropped in😊.

Travelling through recently and had many recommendations to stop in here. The atmosphere of the bakery is exactly what you expect of a small country town bakery. The staff are friendly and welcoming. It can be crowded as I believe it's the only bakery in the small town. My family ordered several items of different things. My son enjoyed the standard sausage roll. I ordered a custard tard and one of the pies (cannot remember what one, possibly chicken and curry). I would have liked the pie to be a little more chunky than just using mince. But that is my opinion only. The curry in the pie was hard to detect but I understand how it's difficult to cater exactly to everyone's taste buds. Overall we were made welcome, enjoyed our food and the cafe vibe of the bakery. It's just a short walk down the road from the submarine with ample street parking.
