HISTORY
The Woolpack Inn Museum was originally known as the Criterion Hotel it was a one storey brick and timber place with a very humble water supply. It was built by John Purcell Holbrooks Pioneer from Ireland it was built just before the first land sales on 10 August 1858. It was named after the original Woolpack Inn, which was located on the north bank of the Ten Mile Creek near the swimming ๐โโ๏ธ pool. In April 1840, Johann Pobst was granted the licence of The Woolpack Inn. Travellers referred to the area as " John the Germans Inn" and "the Germans." The original Criterion Hotel ๐จ suffered the fate of many buildings in the 1890s, as in August and September 1895, the hotel ๐จ burnt ๐ฅ down in two separate fires ๐ฅ. Donald McInnes rebuilt the single storey brick building. The second storey was added in September 1913. This building continued operating as the Criterion Hotel ๐จ ("Bottom Pub") under licence Kevin Murphy until it closed its doors ๐ช on 30th June 1965. They remained closed until it reopened it's doors as the Woolpack Inn museum in February 1971 and ran ๐โโ๏ธ by local community organisation . The premises consist of 22 rooms exhibiting the way Germanton and Holbrook residents lived between the late 1800s and early 1900s.
