The best local history museum in Australia? I visited Kapunda on Dec 30th, 2023, to see its resident 'Big Thing', Map the Miner. I decided to stop by the Historical Society Museum beforehand. The museum was only $5 to enter and I was provided with an overview of the place by two helpful volunteers. The museum itself is spread over two floors, and has multiple rooms. It contains approximately 20,000 artifacts from the 1800's to modern times, including stamps/currency, clothing, household goods (e.g., early fridges, radios), hospital equipment (e.g., an early surgery table), and vehicles (e.g., a old town ambulance and hearse). There are also reconstructions of an old shop, classroom, church, and home. Included in the price are smaller two museums next door, with one centred on the war and one centred on the Kapunda mine. Whilst this museum contains artifacts from Kapunda, they are artifacts that could have been common throughout Australia, so you do not need to be a local to enjoy this truly...
