Sir John Franklin Hotel — Restaurant in Kapunda

We were at the Sir John last night and witnessed a situation unfold which just doesn’t sit right with me. There was a group of people, probably about 8 or so, sitting outside. They were approached by a local who I’ve seen harass and bully people and especially women numerous times. They asked him several times to leave the table and go away and he wouldn’t leave them alone. He got violent, loud and abusive towards them. Eventually was escorted inside. Not long after the bar staff came outside and told the people he harassed they had leave. They did nothing wrong and I was furious to see they got kicked out over someone who’s caused troubled so many times before. From what I saw those people had spent quite a bit of money already and the sir John would have lost hundreds of dollars from kicking that big group out. It almost seems like the bar staff didn’t want to kick out...

Staff are friendly, TAB and pokies are availible. Great outdoor space with a jukebox, they have all your basic pub meals sorted. Smoker friendly drinking areas, family friendly, kids are welcome and staff treat them well.

Indoors feels like a regulars only bar though. Most regulars are welcoming, but some can make the experience uncomfortable.

But because rooms are cheap upstairs and if you are a big group of people the outdoor area has you covered it can be a great place to drink.

The dining room was very busy. Had to sit in the front bar for dining. Staff telling each other "to have another line" loud obnoxious. Alot of swearing from front staff. Have dined here a couple of times now and both times ordered steak, cooked medium and both times very under cooked. Vegetables beautifully cooked. The husband had fish and chips and said it was nice. The gaming area and outdoor area unfortunately hadn't been cleared for a long time, glasses everywhere full ashrays, etc. First time we went in December...
