1000 steps is a hidden gem, and a great place to come for a good workout or a light stroll. Surrounded by trees and hills of Mount Dandenong, there is a short walking path of few kilometers leading up from the foot of the hill to the top. Stairs have been constructed from half way through the climb to assist, and although it may sound like difficult to climb, it is not.

The walk is just right in distance and absolutely amazing as a way to get fit. You are surrounded by fresh mountain trees and air, and by people of all ages from young to old who are keen to be fit.

You can enjoy this place any time from morning to afternoon, and in any season.

There is a cafe located at the foot of the hill where you can stop by to enjoy a coffee or a tea, as well a other attractions nearby to visit.

It is my regular exercise spot, and I highly recommended you make it yours too! Definitely beats the just...

I got there at 6:30am and boy am I glad because the carpark was packed when I left at 10am.

Three tracks up, including the 1000 Steps. Only thing I didn't like was that it clearly says no running and people do so be mindful and contentious. The steps are also different widths and heights, so please be careful!

There are plaques along the way telling the story of the Kokoda Campaign which are really interesting (and perfect spots to stop and rest a bit for those who aren't in top notch physical condition).

Not much of a view as the trees really cover the area, but still a good experience and would do it again. Keen to try some of the longer walks that continue from the end of the 1000 Steps walk.

Also, if you have time the 1000 Step Cafe has a really nice brekky and some other nibbles on site. The perfect way to end...

If you're looking for further adventure or wee bit more workout for your legs, then don't stop at the 1000 Steps summit, walk towards One tree hill picnic ground and head towards Lord Somers Rd, you will find an unmarked track down hill. It's about 380m steep downhill towards Tyson Track. From there turn to your left and walk 200m then you will be at the Outlook Track intersection. Don't take the outlook track, just before that there is another unmarked uphill track which will take you back to One tree hill picnic ground. It's worth it!

Caution: I donโ€™t recommend during rainy days. It can be very slippery. Hiking shoes will surely help you with sturdy...

This place is like a piece of cake. We love it we went there with our kids. There is plenty of carpark and there is a small playground for kids. There are multiple shelters for picnics with BBQ I believe but I did not try them. There is a small cafe as well if you would like to get a snack or a small meal. They have nice ice cream though what I really recommend if the weather is hot ๐Ÿ˜…. The only thing I did not like about this park is that the toilets are not clean and very dirty. There are many spiders web ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ and insects ๐Ÿ› all around. The baby change room is so so so smelly.

Dandenong Ranges National Park is a beautiful and peaceful place to explore nature. The walking trails are well-kept and suitable for all skill levels, from casual strolls to more challenging hikes. The lush forests, fern gullies, and scenic lookouts make every visit refreshing and photogenic. Itโ€™s a perfect spot for picnics, birdwatching, and reconnecting with nature. The park is well-signposted, and facilities like parking and rest areas are convenient, making it an enjoyable experience for families, friends, and solo visitors alike.
