The lake is the main feature of Karkarook park and is perfect for all sorts of recreational activity including fishing, bird watching, boating, canoeing, rowing, kayaking and sailing. A sealed 1.8 km trail circles the lake which is great for activities such as walking, jogging, bike riding and skating. There's a small boat launching ramp and two fishing jetties/pier platforms which are great for fishing as well as viewing, bird watching and photography. There are many different species of wildlife including the Superb Fairy-wren, the Blue-billed Duck, Musk Duck and Little Falcon and you're likely to also see coots, cormorants, egrets, herons, native ducks and swamp hens around the lake and in the adjacent wetlands. The lake is stocked frequently with freshwater fish species including Rainbow Trout or Red Fin and more recently, Murray Cod and Golden and Silver Perch. There's a small picnic area with a pavilion and several square open sided tables which are perfect for wheelchair users and the Dragonfly and She-oak picnic areas are close by a well as the car parks.
