I had a very unpleasant experience in the museum this afternoon. My son loves aircrafts and he enjoys visiting the museum, so to make him happy, I brought him there again today. Since it is the public holiday, there were many people there. In the museum, my son loves the simulator attraction most, and would like to stay in the cockpit. He has special needs and could not understand the rules of taking turns very well, so every time he gets into the cockpit, I count the time. If there's someone waiting for a turn, then after 5 minutes he has stayed in there, I remind him to leave and come back later. At the third round he went to that attraction today, he sat on the left seat at 2:35pm. After a little while, another family came. The parents asked their children if they would like to sit on the right side, their children didn't sit. I talked to my son to ask him leave and come again, but my son was not willing to. At 2:41pm, the parents asked me to ask my son to leave. I expained that I had already tried to do so. The father of the family said to me in this country people have to follow the rules, and asked me if I was speaking Chinese to my son. The mother of the family went to find a staff. I expained to the staff I had already persuaded my son to leave. Besides, the right seat was always vacant, and my son has special needs. The staff told me that if we were not leaving, he was going to close that attraction. Obviously, he already made his judgement before he knew everything. My family live in Australia, I am working full-time, and my children are studying here. We love this country. This is the first time after 7 years from we started our new life here that people talks about my race in front of me, and this is the first time I do not get the proper treatment when someone is supposed to treat people fairly. Both my son and myself had a ruined afternoon. How...
Read moreThe Moorabbin Air Museum is an aviation museum at Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was founded in 1962 as the Australian Aircraft Restoration Group, in an attempt to maintain a World War II-era Bristol Beaufighter aircraft. It has since become a museum, with a large aircraft collection. It was known as the Australian National Aviation Museum up until October 2021. As of 2021 it held nearly 60 aircraft and 25 engines.
The Museum is one of the oldest volunteer run Museums, with a collection of over 50 aircraft and engines and many relics. This is the most complete and important collection of Australian built aircraft, with some examples being the oldest surviving ones in the world. One of the biggest attractions is that we allow people to sit in the cockpits of a number of military and civilian aircraft! Souvenirs, merchandise, books and models available in our shop. We welcome group tours and birthday parties, and are open seven days (closed Good Friday, Christmas Day)
Great way to introduce kids to aeroplanes, there are a number of air crafts you can climb in and sit in the cockpits and pretend to fly. There are other craft you can walk through to experience the history of the older planes. There are a few simulators the kids can play in as well. A number of the craft are outside so plan your visit based on weather. It on,y takes 60-90mins to get through it all depends on...
Read moreA little confusing place, I went with some friends as we heard thats it's one of the coolest aviation museums he'd ever seen (he's a pilot) and we thought we would take his advice and see what it's all about. Unfortunatly we went on a rainy day but that didn't stop us. The planes here are awesome and you could look for hours. My problem started when we saw that one of the airliners was closed for maintenance or repair (don't quote me on that I'm not sure), anyway we looked at the exterior and moved on to the next aeroplane. I couldn't remember the name of the plane but it had a small hatch at the bottem which you climb though to get into the plane, my friends which immediately back out of going as the hatch was a little wet said I should go in, so I did. I got up and sat down and this is where the problem started. So basically in this plane you can't see if someones in the plane unless you go in the the workers from the airliner came over to the plane I was in and basically shut the hatch on me and my friends had to stop them before I was locked in. I kind of felt annoyed by this as they didn't seem to care about the people standing around the hatch but mostly wanted to tell the workers that next time they should double check before they just close doors, I'll have to think personally about coming back but the planes...
